Poem: New Beginnings

Mar 16, 2013 12:25

This is a Schrodinger's Heroes poem, and was prompted by
ysabetwordsmith. It came out of last weekend's Poetry for the Masses! It is being posted as a free perk for her sponsoring of the poem Best Intentions.

New Beginnings

Break-ups are never easy, but Alex had offered him a clean break.

They had been engaged,
not he and Alex, but he and --

they had met in an astrophysics class,
they had bonded over both being happa, over a love of the stars.
They had argued about settling down after marriage;
he wasn’t ready.

He awoke one morning alone,
the ring on the pillow next to him,
and woke alone every morning after.

Alex had offered him a clean break, and he took it.
A Morgan ready to leave,
to step into shoes not his,
to step into a void filled by a she --

He left because it wasn’t easy,
but he stayed -

He stayed because it was.
