The Ever-changing AfterLife.

“It is like this,” the Catholic explained, “Jesus Christ died
for our sins. He died, and he rose to Heaven, paving our ways.”

The Buddhist shook his head bemusedly,
“I never understood your belief in an eternal soul.
Life, and death, my friend, is forever changing,
and so are you. Do you never feel so absolutely
that you are more than you?”

“We are all more than we are,” the Catholic agreed.

“Yes, and no.” The Buddhist tipped his head, considering.
“Think of life like a river, the morning river you wash your clothes
is not the same river you take water to prepare your meal,
it always flowing, always parting ways. Life, my friend,
life is like that river. Your soul is always flowing,
between this life and the next, between this life and the last.
Who you are in the next night, is not you were yesterday morning.”

The Catholic blinks. “You speak of a kind of Immortality, we do not.
We have a Heaven, and a Hell, and they may change,
but we do not have a continuous being, we have an eternity.
Death is death for us, we cannot change it, we cannot escape.”

“That sounds terrifying,” the Buddhist spoke with wide eyes.

The Catholic shrugged. “Not really. After all, it’s assured -
we’re going to Heaven.”
