I've started a post tracking what Hebrew words and turn of phrases I learn this summer. It's as I said. If I'm going to friend the Israelis working in the Marketplace for the summer season, I'm going to take full advantage. One joked he'd have me speaking fluently by the end of summer. Really I just want to be able ask more than Me'daber or Me'daberet Ivrit? or answer Ani me'dabert Anglit.
It helps, I think, that they are all very amused by this. There's another couple, and the others working with them, who just opened a new store in the Marketplace (it's a Michal Negrin store), and the husband-half and one of the designers have taken to ordering their drinks in Hebrew when I am the register, and mostly only half-expect me to answer in kind. Luckily, I still remember my numbers up to one hundred. Luckily, coffee at least, translates the same.
