So we went down to the South Georgia for Labor Day.
We left Saturday morning and tried to rent a car, but apparently Enterprises web based reservation system isn't attached to their inventory... Genius! So we took my car instead, getting it a much needed oil change in Macon. Also, BBQ. We did some geocaching and bought some fruitcake straight from the fire hose and eventually got down to the Kingsland around 5:30PM and switched hotels on account of good couponage. We tried to visit the Catfish festival, but it had already ended for the day and it was a bit rainy anyway. We drove up to the St. Simon's, where it wasn't raining and wandered around the beach and had dinner. The rocks near the beach were covered with barnacles and weird little bug things that i don't know what they were. Sort of like a cross between shrimp and millipedes. There were tons of them... After that, we headed to the local Wal*Mart for supplies and then ended the day.
Sunday, we got up and headed to the St. Mary's as it was still to early for catfish. The area was pretty run down looking. Although it was Sunday morning, so maybe just no one was up yet. Then we went back to the Kingsland and attended the
Catfish Festival. It wasn't really as catfishy as i'd hoped, but it was still moderately amusing. I've never eaten a whole catfish before... I think i'm gonna stick with filets, though. I also had some alligator-on-a-stick, which was a bit not good. Once we got bored of looking at the crafty booths we drove down to Fernandina beach over the Florida border and wandered through some of their many junk shops. Then we jumped back toward the hotel and spent the rest of the day slacking in the hotel watching the food and gameshow networks. Woo! Lazy! Also, more BBQ.
Monday, we came home and had even more BBQ on the way. Hooray for BBQ!
