Dirty grapes

There's nothing interesting to report in regards to the war, in the north anyway, or at least in regards to me. There may have been something valuable somewhere in the country, but regardless, my position feels more and more like a prison each day. Wake up, eat occasionally, work out, read, then spend the rest of the day pondering over what I'm going to do once this is over.

We went on a convoy yesterday that took us into the city for a few hours. The main mission was to gain information on the areas designated as "safe", but I went along to get some shopping done. Along the way I picked up a cheaply made cell phone, a carton of cigarettes, and a large quantity of mango juice for the rest of the crew. There was a man selling fruits, but I didn't look too much into them as I'm sure the sanitation in Afghanistan isn't among the greatest. I decided to try my luck and sample a few grapes, as per recommendation from the commander, and I must say that they were possibly the most delicious grapes I've ever had. Again, with the cleanliness of the city and the merchant I didn't bother feasting too much.

I finished watching The Social Network yesterday morning and during the day I fell asleep listening to Kansas and thinking about Jessica. I need to schedule more time to go to the gym so I don't fall behind again on the fitness schedule. Everyone on my shift tries to go in the afternoon while I prefer using the hottest part of the day as a time to rest. Perhaps I'll have to take a sedative after shift to pass out with and recover a more convenient sleeping pattern.
