Interview with Buffy Summers (Note: includes only canon for the television series. I have very little knowledge of the comics.)
Noelle: Let's start off with an easy question. How old were you when you were called?
Buffy: I was 15 and living in Los Angeles with my parents. That was before their split when mom and I moved to Sunnydale.
Noelle: That was a pretty big coincidence, your mom bringing the slayer to live on the Hellmouth.
Buffy: You know, I’ve never really thought about that before. The Watcher’s Council must have been involved somehow.
Noelle: Was it hard to believe there were actually vampires and demons in the world?
Buffy: Oh, absolutely! Back before I was called I wasn’t exactly what one would call observant. Luckily that kicked in with all my other slayer senses! But, seriously, I was in a world of denial. Vampires and demons did not go with shopping and cheerleading. But, I had to come to grips with my calling eventually.
Noelle: How many years have you been the slayer?
Buffy: Seven years now. Sometimes I still can’t believe it’s been that long. Statistically I should’ve been dead years ago! (laughs)
Noelle: What did it feel like suddenly being one of now two slayers?
Buffy: Honestly? It was a little hard to deal with. For two years it was just me, you know? Sure I had my friends and my watcher, but at the end of the night it was me taking down the bad guys. Not to mention the fact that when Kendra came to town she was trying to kill my boyfriend. Didn’t invoke warm, fuzzy feelings!
Noelle: Okay, so what did it feel like to suddenly go from being one of two to one of hundreds?
Buffy: Well that was a lot easier to deal with for two reasons. First, I was a part of this plan. That made it easier to swallow. Second, it was a major factor in good winning over evil. Unfortunately it’s putting a whole lot more girls in danger every night, but it’s also keeping a lot more people safe. And what’s gonna be wrong with that?
Noelle: What was it like to all of a sudden have a teenage sister?
Buffy: (laughs) It wasn’t like one day she just showed up on my doorstep! The monks gave all of us memories that included bringing Dawn home from the hospital. When I first found out that those memories were all fake, I wished I didn’t know. She was my sister, and then she wasn’t. She was so much more important than that. Now I wish those monks were still around so I could thank them. I don’t know what my life would be like without Dawn in it.
Noelle: Who or what would you consider to be the toughest foe you’ve ever gone up against?
Buffy: Wow, now that’s a question! Definitely the First Evil. With Glory and even the Mayor, well I could physically fight them. How do you fight something that’s everywhere and yet nowhere at all? Obviously we figured out a way to stop them last year, but there will always be evil out there.
Noelle: Who would you consider your biggest ally?
Buffy: There’s no way to answer this question. Everyone in my life has such a significant role. Willow is a major asset with her magic, but it’s something she works to maintain every day. Dawn is growing more and more knowledgeable about the demon world. Xander is completely irreplaceable with his support and experience. And Giles, (pause) I mean who knows what kind of slayer I’d be without him? Sorry, but my answer is no answer.
Noelle: Okay now the big question: Angel or Spike?
Buffy: Wow, and here I thought I’d get through one interview without this question! Don’t you guys have more interesting things to ask about than my non-existent love life? If you want a real answer, though, again there isn’t really one. Angel was my past and he’s always going to stay there. He was my first love and that’s never going to change. With Spike, I guess we were cut off before we even got started. Who knows where that could’ve gone?
Noelle: What's next for the "Scooby gang"?
Buffy: After Sunnydale we went to England to see what was left of The Watcher’s Council and we’ve been here ever since. We’re setting up an operation, I guess you’d call it. Trying to find the new slayers. These girls are out there without watchers, without anyone to guide or train them. We’ve sent some of the more experienced girls out to some Hellmouth hotspots, and we’ll just continue to fight the good fight until I break a hip. (laughs)
Noelle: Okay last question: what's the most important thing you want people to know about you?
Buffy: That I'm completely normal when you take away all the supernatural stuff. I take out my trash late on garbage day, I can't cook a meal without completely stressing out and I can barely drive a car! If it wasn't for the slayer stuff I'd be pretty boring.
