Abby and Rebecca Millay live in a pink house in a small town that isn't nearly as happy as it looks. Their mother had painted it pink the summer before she died, and her father had moped around it ever since, a living ghost who haunts his daughters. Because of this, Abby takes on the role of protector to her younger sister as they both try and make it through the day. Abby finds solace in the men in town, looking for a distraction but never a relationship. Rebecca takes refuge in her friend Louisa, and they spend their time wandering through the overgrown garden in Louisa’s sprawling backyard. But when a sudden thunderstorm cuts their time short one day, they return home early to find Abby screaming on the porch with a rucksack and the car keys. She declares she’s leaving, that she won’t put up with this anymore and that she’ll never return to their damned pink house. But when the motor revs and the car heads towards the street, she finds herself facing her little sister. She has to go but she just can’t leave, and finds she doesn’t have to make that choice when Rebecca and Louisa climb into the back seat and tell her to go, to drive, to take them anywhere as long as she doesn't leave them. So they go. Together.
