Lopez remarked today after seeing my "Prose Before Hos" shirt that Shakespeare's not much of a prose guy. I guess he's got a point. He suggested Henry James; I now counter with no less than Jane Fuckin' Austen.
"It is common knowledge that a man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. To those men I propose this admonishment: Prose Before Hos."
I really think it would fit better in Sense and Sensibility, though.
"My Dearest Miss Dashwood,
I acknowledge that there is little that could possibly serve to explain my wholly, utterly inexcusable treatment of you. I offer merely the sentiment we Willoughbys have always lived (and loved) by: Prose Before Hos.
