Jalal al-Kamil has had five thousand years in which to make and carry out his various plans, and five thousand years in which to figure out how to deal with complications to those plans.
Such as the Nexus unexpectedly thrusting him and his students into an alternate universe in which he's dictatorial ruler of the United States. Such as the fact that he can still call up, quite clearly, his memories from that life in that universe -- and the implication that his students would remember theirs, as well.
Such as the fact that Nathaniel isn't answering his calls, and he'll have to handle this on his own.
But he can deal with those. He has the small blessing of the rest of the world, apparently, not recalling the transformation. He knows where his students live (and his former students, and Nathaniel -- all those who were in the Nexus with him during this little 'glitch,'), their dorm addresses and their phone numbers, and he will visit them one by one, if he needs to, in order to ensure that his plans in this universe continue to go smoothly.
