A/N: Happy Birthday, RS! :DDDDD I've been thinking about this one for a while (the prompt was disguise), and I really love it. alkjdkl But I hope she does, and SHE BETTER HAVE AN AWESOME DAY. YEAH. I'M TALKING TO YOU, RS. xDD

It was a normal rainy afternoon. That alone should’ve told Sora something was wrong, seeing as the last time it was this bad out (that he could remember), Destiny Islands had been destroyed.

He shuddered, before turning back to his math test, chewing on the end of his pencil, and wondering what in the world the answer could be.

Riku hadn’t been in school today. Perhaps Riku was sick or maybe one of Riku’s long lost family members kicked the bucket. Sora shook his head, and erased a random doodle on the top of the page - Riku had promised to come to school early to help Sora with this test. Something must’ve been up.

And if not, he mused, staring blankly at the problems, Riku was going to pay. Big time.

The bell rang, and Sora groaned, before writing a random answer down onto the test paper, and handing it to the teacher. She frowned at the test, and at Sora, but by then, the brunet was already out the door.

“How was it?” Kairi asked. Sora glanced over to her, and gave her a dejected shrug, before adjusting his backpack.

“ I dunno. We’re going to go visit Riku, right?” He asked, biting his lip.

Kairi rolled her eyes, and lightly whacked his shoulder. “Of course we are, silly. That’s what friends are for.”

Sora nodded, and the two teens walked out of Destiny Islands High School.

--

Riku’s mother’s expression when she opened the door was one of pure relief, Sora noted. “Welcome, welcome! Come in!” She said, her tone too happy for this dreary afternoon.

Kairi smiled. “Thanks for letting us come over.”

Riku’s mother shook her head (nervously, Sora also noticed), and pointed up the stairs. “S-So you’re here to visit Riku, yes? Well, obviously you’re here to visit R-Riku. I mean, why wouldn’t you be he-“

“Are you okay?” Sora asked, blinking. “Is Riku really sick or something? Cause he promised to meet me…”

His mother fidgeted, and bit her lip. “He…he…” Kairi and Sora exchanged looks just as the woman broke into sobs. “I have no idea what’s wrong with him! He’s fine physically, but he … his skin got darker over night, his eyes aren’t the same, and his voice… It’s like something has taken over his body!”

Kairi’s eyes widened and she shook her head. “No way!” She, whispered, glancing over to Sora, who was staring at the closed door. “I mean, we all saw Ansem the Wise destroy Kingdom Hearts… Riku should be - was! - back to normal!”

Before Kairi finished, Sora had climbed up the stairs and was knocking on the door.

“Go away.”

Sora froze, and he turned back to Kairi, who had heard it as well, her eyes wide. Sora shook his head, and pounded harder on the door. “Riku! Come on, it’s Sora and Kairi! Let us in!”

A long silence draped over all of them, but after a while, the door cracked opened. Nothing greeted him but soft breaths. Sora eyes widened ever so slightly, but he grabbed the door and opened it completely so he could walk in.

Sora tried to ignore Riku’s mother’s soft whispers of “What happened to my baby” as he beckoned Kairi up the stairs. She shook her head. “Sora, I’m going to try to calm his mom down. I’ll be up in a bit.”

The door shut behind Sora, enveloping him in utter darkness. Sora groped the wall for the light switch, but Riku spoke. “Leave it.”

“Riku, what…?” Sora may not have been very clumsy, but in a pitch black room, he was bound to trip over a shoe lying innocently one the floor. He grabbed Riku in an attempt to right himself, and it was then he realized something was horribly wrong. Maybe Riku’s mother wasn’t as crazy as he intinally thought. “Riku… your hair. It’s longer.”

Riku swatted Sora’s hand away, and tucked his knees to his chest. “Is Kairi too afraid to see me?” He murmured softly, his new voice freaking Sora out just a bit.

“I can’t even see you, stupid,” Sora grumbled, leaning away from Riku to turn on the light on his dresser.”

“I said leave it!” Riku snarled, but the order came too late and Sora simply blinked at what he saw.

The person in front of him could’ve been some twisted mixture of both Riku and Ansem (as soon as Sora thought of it, he pushed the thought out of his head. Ugh - what a horrid thought). His eyes were a bright orange, with specks of green; his hair was as long as Ansem’s, a mixture of white and silver; and his skin was a light brown - not exactly Riku’s signature pale, but also not Ansem’s dark brown.

Sora gulped, and put a hand on his best friend’s face, trying not to feel hurt when Riku slapped it away. “Riku, what happened?”

“I don’t know!” Sora jerked back, suddenly realizing he’d heard that voice before. Sure, Riku’s was older than when he last heard it, but Sora would never forget the strange combination of Riku’s and Ansem’s voice when he saved Kairi in Hallow Bastion a few years ago. “I was…thinking. And I suddenly look like…him.”

“But you’re not him,” Sora attempted, and Riku’s orange eyes flashed.

“Like this is a hell of a lot better!” Riku recoiled when he saw Sora flinch, and Riku shook his head. “Just leave. I’ll be better later.”

Sora shook his head. “But what if you aren’t? Riku, I just want to help!”

Riku’s silence probably meant that he wanted Sora to leave, but Sora ignored it, and continued.

“Look, what were you thinking about when this happened?” Sora pried, frowning. “We’re best friends; I’m not just going to run away because you don’t want me here.”

Riku gave a snort, but still didn’t look at him. Sora tugged on Riku’s arm and repeated the question.

“If I told you,” Riku said, his voice like a growl. “You’d be more disgusted than when you first saw me.”

Sora raised his eyebrow. “Why would I? I know my best friend is underneath all this…” Sora brushed the abdomen-length silver-white hair out of Riku’s face and gave a genuine smile. “So, spill. What was it?”

Lowering his eyes, Riku asked, “Do you still like Kairi?”

Sora blinked. “Um, what?”

Riku’s eyes twitched. “You heard me.”

Shaking his head, Sora gave a soft laugh. “Riku, you know that I said I didn’t anymore! Yeesh, I thought you had world shattering problems…”

When Riku didn’t crack a smile, Sora frowned. “Riku?”

“I …I thought you did.” Riku drummed his fingers against his headboard, closing his eyes. “And even though she’s one of my best friends… I wished the worst for her.” He groaned, and lowered his head in his hands, his voice slowly becoming shaky. “Ironic, isn’t it? I searched the worlds over for her, and suddenly, I’m so … so… jealous of her that I wished her ill. I deserve to look like this.”

“No you don’t!” Sora vigorously shook his head. “Look, whatever you were thinking about, it was probably a fluke! Besides, I don’t like Kairi! Riku, I told you that!”

Riku gave a snort; it didn’t sound nearly as threatening as before, seeing as Sora could see tears rolling down Riku’s cheeks. “The school thinks you’d make a great couple.”

Sora’s face twisted in confusion. “Whaat? Kairi and I? But we’re best friends!” He rolled his eyes. “Seriously Riku, if I had to spend forever and a day with someone, it would be you.”

Riku’s sniffing stopped. “Wait. What?”

Rolling his eyes, Sora continued. “I mean, we’re the bestest of friends. You’ve always be there for me, like I have for you. And I trust you with my life more than I trust me with mine.”

“But I tried to kill you once!”

“So?” Sora leaned over and gave Riku a tight hug. “In retrospect, I did too - I mean, I fought back.” He grinned. “So, like Timon from the Pride Lands said, you gotta put your behind in the past. …No, wait. It was put the past behind you. Whoops.”

Riku ignored Sora’s rambling, and pulled back from him. “But we’re both guys, Sora.”

“Sora rolled his eyes. “And? Love is love. I mean, Belle fell in love with the Beast when she was a Beast. Captain Shang fell for Mulan when he thought she was a guy - and don’t you dare tell either of them. Goofy pointed it out, so -“

Riku lowered his eyes, his newly acquired long hair covering his expression. . “You seriously about that, Sora?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” Sora beamed. He opened his mouth to add something else, but Riku easily shut him up with a gentle kiss.

A few moments later, Riku pulled back, a light blush crossing his face. “That was what I was worrying about, Sora. That… I guess you’d be sick of me, if I said I liked you.”

“Course I wouldn’t be! Why didn’t you just say that in the first place?”

Riku brought his hand up to slap his face with, but he suddenly noticed that he was pale again. He let out a surprised laugh, before checking his hair length, rushing over the mirror, and inspecting his eyes, seeing his normal aquamarine staring back. Turning around, Riku gave Sora a smile wide enough to crack his face.

Sora only smiled back, before grabbing Riku’s hand and leading him to the door. “Come on - I think I know what would cheer your mom up.

--

Two days later, Sora was staring at a bright red 50% on the top of his math test with a frown. The teacher shook her head and sat in a chair opposite of Sora. “Now, I normally don’t do this…” She sighed, and gave Sora a smile. “But I’d heard that you hadn’t been yourself that day. If you don’t whisper a word to the other students, I’ll let you make this up. Alright?”

Sora grinned, and gave his teacher a hug, which she awkwardly patted his back in response. Handing her the test back, Sora rushed out the door, and gave Riku a hug. “I can retake it!” He whispered into Riku ear.

Riku smiled back. “Alright - come over my house later. I’ll help you out.”

Sora grinned malicious in response, and Kairi rolled her eyes. “I still can’t believe she’d do that… And when you say, ‘help,’ Riku, you do, in fact, mean ‘help with math,’ right? Nothing sexual?”

“But of course,” Riku chuckled. Kairi rolled her eyes again, and gave the two of them a hug, before being dragged away by Selphie. Riku smirked, and glanced over to Sora. “Well, nothing sexual at first. That is a pretty crappy grade, Sora.”

Sora glared at Riku, and the two of them walked out of the high school, hand in hand.
