Summary: It was a normal day when Riku awoke to see the younger version of his boyfriend in his bed.
A/N: Um, this is one of my weird pairing fics. In a way, it's not weird, but it is. :D PostKH2!Riku/KH1!Sora. Yep. ...So, um, hope you like it!

It was the third anniversary of their return to the islands, Riku thought, leaning back onto the pillows with a smile. Three years after being gone for a year and a half. And, almost two years ago, Riku had finally decided to come clean and tell Sora how much the brunet meant to him.

Luckily for Riku, Sora only smiled and had replied that Riku meant the same to him, if not more.

They had been together for almost two years. Their anniversary was rapidly approaching, which made Riku smile even wider as he glanced over to the sleeping brunet who lay next to him (they’d had a movie night and it had gone on much too late for Sora to leave, nothing more). Sora gave a soft groan before rolling over facing the silver haired teen, his mouth formed in a nervous frown.

Riku frowned as well, before gently shaking Sora awake. “Sora…?”

Sora’s eyes snapped open before he jumped out of bed, shaking his head. “…Riku?” he nervously asked, looking extremely confused. “No…you can’t be. Riku’s only a year older than me; you look…”

“About nineteen?” Riku offered, climbing out of the bed, looking about as confused as Sora. “And you’re eighteen.”

“Me?!” Sora jumped, shaking his head. “No, no, no! I’m…” Riku raised his eyebrow and took a step forward. Sora summoned his Keyblade and began looking around. “Where am I?! Donald! Goofy!”

Running a hand through his hair, Riku continued to stare at Sora. “They returned to the castle, after our mission was done.” Seeing that Sora still didn’t understand what he was talking about, he added, “About three years ago.”

“Three…” Sora repeated, before his eyes widened. “Wait! But…that would make you eighteen!”

Riku blinked and shook his head. “I’m kinda surprised that you’ve forgotten the second adventure. You know…your Nobody? Roxas?” That received a blank look and he continued. “…The World That Never Was?”

As though a fire was lit beneath him, Sora jumped up and began running to the door. Though Riku didn’t know exactly what in the world the boy was planning, he followed him, only to see that he’d only gotten to the window. “My island…” Instead of being ecstatic, Sora just looked confused. “But… I’m still searching for Kairi, who’s in Hollow Bastion. Who’s Roxas and where is this world that never was?”

Riku didn’t want to have to ask this - the way things were turning out, he couldn’t find another way to put it - but he silently chewed his lip before speaking. “How old are you?”

“Me?” Sora gave a short laugh before shaking his head. “Well, guy who looks like Riku but couldn’t be him, I’m fourteen, and I’ll be fifteen soon.”

Riku blinked three times. “Right.” He then grabbed his cell phone and began to quickly punch in numbers.

--

“Let me get this straight,” Kairi asked, rubbing her hands to her temple. Riku glanced over to her before picking up his cup of coffee. A moment later, he put it back down and shook his head - he couldn’t drink anything. He felt like throwing up. “Your boyfriend - my best friend - woke up next to you, proclaiming that he was still fourteen, and that I hadn’t even been saved yet? That was…” she paused, counting in her head. “Like, four years ago.”

“Either Sora has been shoved back into Lala Land,” Riku remarked, shaking his head, “Or he’s telling the truth. I mean, the kid, no matter how much I don’t want him to be, he is Sora physically. And…”

Before he could get another comment in, there was a loud gasp and both of them turned to the entrance of the coffee shop they were sitting in. Sora was staring at her wide eyed and grinning as he quickly approached them. “Kairi! I thought you were in Hollow Bastion! Wow…you look so much older than you did when I last saw you.” He glanced over to Riku before tilting his head. “And…who are you, again?”

Riku resisted the urge to groan. The joke wasn’t funny to start out with, and it wasn’t funny now. “Sora, I thought I said to stay in the apartment.”

“You could be under Heartless control for all I know,” Sora replied, shaking his head. “Besides, you said you were meeting a girl named Kairi, you who look like Riku, and I had to be sure. Anyway, so what is your name?”

Riku narrowed his eyes at Sora before glancing over to Kairi. She winced, and faced Sora. “That’s Riku, can’t you tell?”

Sora frowned. “Last time I saw Riku, he was trying to kill me. He left me on Hook’s pirate ship at the mercy of him and his Heartless. Therefore, unless you’re that person, you can’t be him. Besides, he’s-“

“Your Riku would be fifteen,” Riku muttered, taking a swig of his drink and grimacing. Ugh - he didn’t even like coffee that much. “And your Riku was a horrible person - leaving you for death on that ship.”

Shaking his head, Sora put an arm on Riku’s. “You’re wrong. I mean, my best friend Riku… I don’t know why he turned to help out Maleficent, but I’ll bring him back.”

He couldn’t help it; Riku jerked his arm away from Sora and stood tall. “You can’t. He falls deeper and deeper into the darkness until he becomes the very person he hates in order to save the person he loves.” A swish signaled that Riku’s cup had landed in the garbage, and he gave a nod towards Kairi. “Stay with her. I’m sure she’ll get you home.”

Riku shoved past both of them and headed out onto the streets, half wondering if he should just go home or if he should wander around for a bit. This wasn’t fair! Their anniversary was coming up in a matter of days, and now the past version of his boyfriend had suddenly appeared. A past version that, if he wasn’t mistaken, was in love with Kairi. Great. Juuuust great.

“Hey, wait!”

He stopped in the middle of the street, clenching his fists. But he then calmed down. This was just Sora’s past self, a younger version of his best friend. He could deal with him.

As Riku turned around, Sora was leaning on his knees, gasping for air. “I didn’t think you could walk so fast,” he mumbled, before standing tall and facing Riku. “What do you know about my best friend Riku?” Sora asked, jabbing his finger in Riku’s direction. “He is stronger than anyone, and could defeat anyone. So don’t you put him down-“

“Do you want to know why I know who Riku is?!” Riku exclaimed, accidentally raising his voice. A few passerbyers gave him strange looks, but he ignored them and continued to stare down at Sora. “I am your Riku. I’m just from, what, four years in the future? And you know what else?”

Sora’s eyes were wide, but he continued to listen. “No…what?” he asked.

Exhaling, Riku took his arm and dragged Sora after him. “Come on,” he mumbled, as the brunet struggled to keep up with his long strides. “It would be better to show you.”

--

“In your world,” Riku began, reaching to the top shelf of his (their) closet and pulling out a photo album. “Who do you like?”

Sora was sitting on his bed, looking around in bemusement. When Riku waved a hand in front of his face, Sora jumped. “Kairi!” He grinned in response. “I mean, she’s so nice to me, and we’ve always planned on taking this trip…”

“Uh huh,” Riku internally rolled his eyes before cracking open the book. “Well, as you can probably see here…”

If Riku had any sense of humor, he would’ve taken a picture of Sora’s wide-eyed expression. “Um…Riku,” he began tentatively, as though not sure that he should call him that. “Why…are my future self and you …you know…”

Riku glanced over to the picture and gave a small smile. That one had been taken by Kairi, and showed Sora smirking while creeping a hand up Riku’s shirt. Although it wasn’t in the picture, Riku’s face was as red as a tomato while Sora had been enjoying himself. “Well…we’re going out. Three years in two days, actually.”

Sora’s eyes were still as wide as dinner plates as he flipped through more pictures. “Is that guy…really me?” he asked, shaking his head. “Wow…I look really…mature.”

Resisting the urge to snort, Riku shrugged. “Call it what you want.” He stood up to grab a soda for himself, but Sora stopped him.

“Why am I here?” he asked, his eyes downcast. “Why did I get shoved from my time and your Sora pulled away from you?”

Riku shrugged. “You’re asking the wrong person,” he mumbled, moving to get up again.

A hand on his shirt caused him to stop. “Alright, what now?” Riku groaned, before turning to face Sora…

…And ended up with Sora rolling on top of him, staring down at him as though attempting to analyze him. “…Sora?” Riku asked, trying to pull himself from under the boy.

Sora didn’t budge. “You’re with me in the future, right?” he asked, biting his lip. “I mean, I should be used to this right?”

Riku blinked, and next thing he knew, the younger Sora was gently pressing his lips against Riku’s. It took a moment for it to register in Riku’s mind, and once it did, he tried prying the boy off of him. “Sora, your future self did this. You don’t have to, you know.” He hoped he sounded convincing, even though he really could use a kiss from Sora right now.

His Sora. Not this fourteen year old.

Sora gave a small shrug and leaned down. “I should get used to this, shouldn’t I?” He moved to kiss Riku again, but only got a hand covering his mouth as a response.

“Save that for who ever you love. Who knows - in your world, you may end up with Kairi.” Riku gave a small smile up to him. “Alright?”

Sora frowned, but nodded and climbed off of Riku. Riku exhaled before simply rolling onto the floor and making himself comfortable. Sora leaned over the side of the bed and Riku gave a shrug. “Just go to bed. It’s late. We’ll discuss this in the morning.”

And, like a light, Riku was out almost instantly.

Sora blinked, climbed off of the bed, and leaned next to Riku. It was weird even thinking about his best friend like that, but…he did trust the silver haired teen, and he was really the only person that Sora ever felt comfortable with.

Sora sighed and cuddled into Riku’s arms before closing his eyes. Hopefully he’d return to his world and would be able to talk some sense into his Riku, and together they could defeat Maleficent. Hopefully, his Riku would grow up to be just as suave and as mature as this Riku.

Smiling to himself, Sora nodded off to sleep.

--

When Riku awoke, it took a moment to register that he was lying on the floor. Oh right, I gave Sora the bed, he groaned before leaning into the person lying next to him.

…Wait a minute.

Said person smiled up to him and kissed his forehead. “Morning, you goof. I thought you’d never wake up.”

Riku gave the Sora next to him a confused look. He was no longer fourteen, but instead back to his eighteen-year-old self. Which was odd, seeing as he knew Sora wasn’t this old last night. “Wait… weren’t you…?” he paused and put his head in his hands.

Sora sat up and tilted his head. “Riku? What’s wrong?”

He shook his head and sat up as well, giving Sora a grin. “It’s nothing.” After a kiss on the nose, Riku leaned onto the floor and smiled. “I promise.”
