Gokudera has never liked Yamamoto. Nope. Not once - never - not for one minute. Why? The reason may seem stupid to many, but to Gokudera, it’s close and personal - that baseball idiot is ruining his chances. He’s supposed to be the Juudaime’s right hand man! Him! Not some idiot who still thinks this whole mafia thing is a game.
And even though Yamamoto doesn’t harbor any unkind feelings toward Gokudera (though he knows that the bomber has plenty for him), even he can get angry at the guy at times.
Tsuna had put the two of them together for a reason, even if Gokudera couldn’t imagine why - he put them together to follow the Hibird; to find Hibari. Lal Mirch had mentioned something about a “Gamma”, and that they shouldn’t fight unless they had to, but Gokudera was too busy of thinking about what could happen once he defeats this Gamma -how happy it would make his Juudaime - to even notice Yamamoto in the background.
The two of them together -attempting to be stealthy, but it’s difficult when one is so bitter to the other - stumble across Gamma himself, who’s eager to fight the two of them. But when
Yamamoto offers to fight with Gokudera, and the silver haired bomber hisses that he never wanted to fight alongside the fool, Yamamoto can only watch from the sidelines as his friend (onesided?) is being pummeled into the ground with some of the fiercest moves either of the boys have ever seen.
Yamamoto rarely snaps, but when he does, the next thing Gokudera knows, he’s flying into the air, attacked by his own teammate. And when Yamamato begins spouting off nonsense about how a right hand man is supposed to act, he hits a soft spot by saying Gokudera is causing trouble for Tsuna by being selfish and such.
Gokudera stares at the baseball idiot (but is he really an idiot? Maybe not…), he watches as Yamamoto steps in to take his place, ready to fight. Thoughts race through his head; - ones he never thought he would ever imagine - maybe, just maybe, that idiot is right. Maybe Gokudera is causing trouble for his Juudaime, and he needs to stop lingering in the shadows and be a team player.
Bah.
All he knows is that he - they - have a fight against Gamma to win, and that he can’t go at it alone. So Gokudera leaps back into the fray, mentioning how they have to fight together and defeat the crap out of Gamma, and Yamamoto agrees, and he lets out an internal laugh.
Maybe the fissure between the two boys has finally been broken after all.
