They had been back on the islands for months after their adventure, and yet, Riku was still slightly worried about Sora. Physically and as well as mentally, he was fine. What Riku was nervous about was…well, his other side.

Roxas. No matter how calm and collected the blond appeared to Sora, Riku still remembered him as a fierce bout of sheer rage, wanting to tear down anything in his path. Because of this, Riku made sure to watch over Sora, especially when the brunet felt a sudden burst of an angry emotion.

Once, in school, Sora had gotten back a test with a lower grade than he’d probably hoped for. At the lunch table, Sora had been talking about the test, and when Riku had glanced to his friend, he noticed the boy’s eyes were bluer, and his hair had a touch of blond in it. Riku blinked, but the differences didn’t go away. Only when Kairi had mentioned that she had seen the blond as well was when Riku put two and two together.

One weekend, Riku and Sora were having a good old fight over on the island. The sun was out, birds were singing, everything was perfect -except Sora was losing. Maybe the stress of school was getting to him; maybe not having the weight of the worlds on him was driving him insane; Riku didn’t know. What he did know, however, was his friend’s hair was turning an intricate blondish color.

“Sora…you alright?” Riku asked, matching Sora’s hit with his wooden sword, before driving the weapon away from him. Sora exhaled.

“I’m fine…just…” Sora sighed again, putting his head in his hands. “Look, I’m fine Riku! Stop asking!”

Riku raised his eyebrow. Either that was Roxas talking, or Sora was really, really peeved. Which was about as rare as the darkness invading their island -which only happened once, thank you. “Sora…you sure?”

“I’m fine, you pompous jerk!” Riku would’ve done something along the lines of a double take, but was tackled to the ground by who he thought was the brunet. Attempting to shift backwards, his eyes widened in recognition.

“Roxas,” he muttered, shoving the blond off of him, standing, and pointing his wooden sword at him. “Where’s Sora?”

“I don’t think he wants to deal with you, Riku,” Roxas responded, in a snarky tone. “Why don’t we fight? Oh, and no cheating this time. Don’t call upon the powers of darkness to save your sad ass!”

“Like I need to,” Riku mumbled, before stepping away from the blond. “And I don’t want to spar with you. I want to talk to Sora. Where is he?”

Roxas snorted, standing up straight. To any passerbyer, it would’ve seemed as though some random blond had kidnapped Sora’s clothing for whatever reason, but probably wouldn’t have noticed the dark waves of hatred flowing from him. “Well, Riku. I have a question. Fight me, and I may ask it.”

Riku groaned, but by the time he nodded to agree to the blond’s agreement, he had to use his involuntary reactions to save himself from being cut apart. “A little slow, aren’t you?” Roxas sneered, jumping back. “Think Sora even wants to see you?”

“My fighting abilty has nothing to do with Sora!” Riku retorted, his eyes narrowing. He ran up to the blond, attempting to slash his chest, but had to spin on his left foot to parring the blonde’s attack. “So, where is he?” He put all his effort into a push, before shoving the blond to the ground, and, before the blond could regain his footing, fell onto him, and pinned his hands above his head.

Roxas struggled for half a moment, before glaring up to Riku. “Let me go.”

“Where’s Sora?” Riku responded, equally pissed. Roxas scowled, and Riku climbed off of him. “I beat you-”

“You cheated!” Roxas interjected, clenching his fists. Riku narrowed his eyes.

“I did not. And even if I did, I didn’t have to use the powers of darkness. Now give me back my friend.” Roxas sighed, and leaned back onto his hands.

“Do you love Sora?” Riku’s eyes widened, and he instantly began sputtering. “Not like that, you idiot.” Roxas shook his head. “Look, if you do like him like that, I don’t want to know. Being in Sora’s mind, I’ll probably find out anyway.”

Riku sat a few feet away from the blond. “Of course I love him. He’s closer to me than family.”

Roxas fidgeted, before glancing up to Riku. “You promise? You’ll take care of him? You’ll watch his back, and he yours?” Riku raised his eyebrow, but nodded anyway. Letting out a sigh of relief, his eyes became cold again. “You do anything to lose his trust…”

“Roxas…you were about to kill me, only to tell me things I already know?” The silver haired teen laughed quietly. “Look, I’ll probably be the one hurt the most is I lost his trust. The two -three,” he corrected, thinking of Kairi, “Are going to be together for ever. And that’s that.”

“Good,” Roxas gave a half smile, before closing his eyes.

A moment later, Sora slumped over, snoring softly. Riku rolled his eyes, but, after placing the wooden swords in his belt, hefted Sora into his arms. “Was this just a test, Roxas?” He asked Sora quietly, knowing that he couldn’t hear him anyway.

With a chuckle, he headed onto the ramp, wondering how he was going to lug two boats home by himself.
