I'm such a goober

I'm already looking at online shelter listings for cats. When lucyruthe moves this weekend and takes Jhansi with her, I know Kanika will be lonely. But I also just love cats and am really looking forward to getting another one.

I may have to make a conscious decision to NOT get another black cat. I have a strong affinity for them. I think it goes back to when I was a very small kid: our cat had four kittens and our parents insisted we keep a male. The one I wanted was the only black one, and it turned out to be the only female out of the four. There's also a bit of the general cultural mystique surrounding them, I suppose. And I have lots of dark clothing, so little bit of black cat fur doesn't look so terrible so quickly on your clothes. Now this may seem really unimportant, but it's often hard enough for friends with only occasional contact to know your cats' names. If they're both black cats, no one would ever keep 'em straight. I'd know which was which, so in the end it may not really matter. Hmph. Personality is what usually wins you over when you go to adopt, anyway. Any opinions?

This may sound weird, but I also think it's kinda cool that two more cats will likely be adopted as a result of our splitting into two households. I suppose that's a silver lining, eh?
