i really should have written this last night, when i was still livid from what happened during the day. because my school is run by a bunch of fgts who are completely naive and think they know everything that goes on in the world. i guess that's what happens when you go to a private school, and your "constitutional rights are taken away" the minute you step into the building. all i wanted to do was get out of the penance service, no big deal. i'm not catholic, i don't believe in penance. who's to say that you can sin all you want then have some guy who molests children tell you you're fine? no offense to any catholics, believe what you want. we're all entitled to our own faith. but when the administration cracks down on you, and berates all the other religions of the world by asking, "are you buddhist? are you hindu? jewish? muslim?" just to get the response that they want to hear, that you are not any of the above, that's stepping out of line. i know that i go to a catholic school, but she could have at least had the decency not to insult what other people believe. what if i had responded that i was one of the above? "yes, ms. miskel, i'm actually hindu." would that have made me lesser of a person? i guess it's her job to reinstate the beliefs of "what our school was built on". but there are other people besides hardcore caucasian catholics in our school. we're supposed to be promoting broad thinking here. i hate narrow-minded people, and how my town has no diversity. we say that we're thinking on a global level, that we really do care about the middle-east and world hunger, but it all really comes down to focusing on ourselves, our own needs, and buying our white wonder bread at the supermarket and indulging in our own careless whims. we standarize test our kids in school to see if they're "up to par" when art classes, music classes, gym classes, are all being cut, funding diminished, just for a lousy number on a piece of paper that signifies, "yeah, you're doing ok. keep up the good work, and don't promote any creativity, because god knows what you'll do with that. you might actually come up with some decent ideas on how to run the country." my school is clueless, and i can't wait to get out of it. i'm a liberal, baby. so why don't you kill me.
