Last films I've watched.

It's been a long time since I've done a post with the last films I've watched, so I figure nows as good a time as to do one.

The Departed - *****
Children Of Men - ***1/2
Little Miss Sunshine - ***1/2
Broken Flowers - ***1/2
First half of Endless Love - **** (How can this be 3.8 on IMDb?)
Best Of Youth Pt. 1 - ****1/2

I'm sure there's some other ones that I'm forgetting.

Bernadette and I have been watching a lot of Angel lately, well, really this whole year has been an Angel marathon. Starting of with finishing off Season 5 of Gilmore Girls - dammit, we need to get Season 6 soon - we moved into watching the first season of Angel. The look of disappointment when Doyle gave up his life for Cordelia and Angel lingers still. Then Season two, which I think for me is the best season so far. Then we moved to the Fred season. That's right, Season three. Oh god, the character traits that this girl has is ridiculous. I'm just so glad that come Season four there's an almost apocalypse to distract her from all the food in the world. Really shouldn't she have thought, well, there's an almost apocalypse, everybody won't pay attention if I eat all of the food.

Bernadette was telling me that Season four isn't a well received season. It garnered many negative reviews and in my opinion, unjustly so. Season three should have gotten those ugly reviews. Whilst the first half of Season three is good, the second half is the pits. Everybody becomes so irritating! And it digs itself into a hole with making Angel into an asshole, and trying to get the audience to sympathise with him still. He's the main guy! Maybe I was missing the point. None the less, Season four so far is a ****1/2 season. Extremely impressive stuff.

Sidenote: I had no idea that Paul Dempsey was so greatly influenced by one of my favourite films, North By Northwest. There's a t-shirt on the internet floating around which shows a picture of their secret show, George Kaplan And The Editors, which has a man being chased by a bi-plane. It also has a line of dialogue, "Keep your hands where we can see them". And then there's the track on The Official Fiction - an album which slowly I'm growing to really appreciate - Kaplan/Thornhill which is quite amazing. Makes me want to sit up and pay even closer attention to this extremely underappreciated songwriter. Why hasn't he got an Aria yet? Who cares actually, people like Paul Dempsey never get the recognition they deserve. I tell you though, I'd kill for a book from him.

For your enjoyment: Kaplan/Thornhill - Something For Kate.
