Hey, check this out! New York's been attacked by a giant alien monster!

Well, ok, that's not exactly news. But did I at least get your attention?

No one knows exactly what it is or where it came from, but if we think about it, we can figure a few things out about where it came from.

First there's the easy stuff - it has to be similar to Earth in temperature and atmosphere or it wouldn't be able to survive here! The planet also has to have a ton of water, since it lives partially underwater and, well, look at the thing! It's huge!

Not too bad, right? But there's so much more stuff we could find out if we could get close enough to see. It must eat enormous amounts of food every day - it's bigger
than a Blue Whale, and those can eat 8,000 pounds of krill in a single day. Eight thousand pounds! That's like, over two and half Lamborghinis!

Come to think of it, has anybody even seen it eat?

We should be able to use science to learn so much more about the alien than we know now, like how are those pesky crab monsters related to Big Mommy, or as I like to call her, Gargantua maternus? Are they clones or offspring, or are they an unrelated species that traveled along with it, like pilot fish and sharks? With some DNA, we could find out. That is, if we could get any DNA. Anybody want to try and get a sample?

.... Anybody?

.... OK, me neither. But if she drools on you and you somehow miraculously survive, you've gotta bring me that drool.
