I'm a happy girl :)

Firstly, pics online at http://picasaweb.google.com/i.left.it/Josh

Yesterday, I went out snowboarding with Josh. I haven't been out snowboarding since high school, when I boarded all winter. I had a crash on ice which resulted in a piece of ice lodging under my kneecap, and me being in a splint and crutches for two weeks. I've been afraid to go back ever since.

Well, I went out skiing a few weeks ago with Josh and Neil, and I thought I should get back onto the board. Rented equipment and we all headed out to Sunshine for the day. I rented a nice little red Grand Prix, boy was that fun to drive. We all piled in and took off to the hill at 7am. It was snowy and blowing the whole drive out, a little challenging to drive in. Periods of low visibility etc. Once we got to the turnoff to the hill traffic was all backed up. Turned out there were a few morons trying to drive up the steep road in bald tired and were blocking traffic. It took us half an hour to get one kilometer. Once we got to the hill I kept her in first and made my way gingerly up the hill. It WAS slippery, but with a light touch and some delicate feathering I managed through the worst of it and we got to the hill.

We all pile out and run to the gondola to get up the mountain. Neil and I lose Josh somewhere in the parking lot (HOW did THAT happen) and I assume he's run up the gondola asap to get some fresh powder and go on a backcountry run, it was between 10-20cm of fresh stuff. So Neil and I look around for 5 minutes and then take off uphill. We also looked around at the top of the gondola for Josh, he's gone. We head to the washroom and then hit the hill. Strawberry chair is for beginners, and since I haven't been on a board in years, I figured I should start slow. Green runs only :)

Well, I fell my way down the first run. I have NO turns. At least the falls were soft into the pow. Getting to the bottom took me half an hour. It was pretty disheartening, I remember NOTHING. Ugh. Neil gets fed up with my flailing and heads to another chair lift to get some fun runs in. So I head up Strawberry again to see if I can get it together. End of the second run I get this Text from Josh "Where the fuck are you guys I waited at the bottom of the gondola for 20 minutes".

Oh shit.

So I had assumed he was off like a rocket to hit the snow. He was being a gentleman and waiting for me. He had gone inside to go to the bathroom and when he came out, we were gone. There is no cell signal in the parking lot. Oh no. Boy do I feel like an ass. That was our time to board together. And I blew it. Fuck! Long story short, he came up the hill and met me at the top of the Strawberry, and I apologized. Alot. I felt like such a moron.

He was pretty ticked, but forgave me and agreed to go for a run with me. He helped me turn by holding me by both hands and pulling me through the turns. Telling me when my weight was too far back. Keeping me upright so I can feel how these turns are supposed to feel like. It was the most incredible lesson. By the end of that run I was pulling /him/ through the turns and was off on my own. I was still falling and shifting weight back from time to time, but I was much better. The sun had come out and it was turning into a beautiful day.

He even did one more run with me, and I was improving by leaps and bounds. He took me trough some fresh powder so I could feel what it was like. WOW. WWWWOOOOOWWWW. Oh my god I can see the addiction, it's like nothing else. I mean, it's nice to have fresh snow to throw around on the runs, but fresh untouched pristine powder? Holy fuck. It's like flying.

At the end of the second run I was feeling much better and Josh went off to do a back-country run. I practiced for another hour and a half until lunch. We all met for lunch, Josh, myself, Neil and Josh's buddy James. Refueled, we went to do a run, all four of us together. Josh and I paired up, Neil and James hit it off as well. I got more instruction and was speeding up my turns. I was doing blue runs. Whee!! Neil and James took off to do something a little more interesting, and Neil got some one-on-one instruction as well, he really appreciated it.

Oh and somewhere through the day I lost my cell phone. FYI, do up your pocket zippers. Especially when falling as much as I do.

End of the day we all met up at the base of the gondola (where I accidentally ditched Josh earlier). Josh even brought good news that someone had found my cell phone and James was bringing it down with him. Sweet :)

Pile back into the car, drive back to town. Roads were dry and clear, the sun sure has some power this time of year. Drop off Neil, the rental gear and the rental car. Head to bed. BIIIIG fucking grin on my face. :)

I am sore, I have a deep purple bruise on my ass, and my muscles are complaining. But what an awesome day. I love boarding, so much better than skiing. I want to go again this coming weekend.

Josh went out boarding again today, I'm off to work. He left at 6am, and covered me with the warm down comforter and a pillow to hug. What a sweet heart :) I'm totally in love with this man.
