So yesterday was amazing. Everything went well....I don't think I've ever had a day that went that well. I didn't screw up the demo (which was pretty well ad libbed I guess you might say, we didn't have a script), I only said two things that I didn't like and it was just the way I phrased it. I got to stay to see the kids do the skit and I love Adam Mertens, the kid is amazing. This play was totally ad libbed as well and for young kids they did extremely well. I then left for the Aster and totally missed Hill 'n' Dale's entertainment which I was looking forward to seeing.
They pulled out songs for us to play for the first time during the rehearsal about 3 hours before the actual gig. One of which had a major trombone solo in it(I Heard it Through the Grapevine) and it wasn't the nice melody solos...actually, there was one and it was easy. We had mikes and moniters and about 8 different singers, lights all over the place....it was wayyy to high classed for me. I was the youngest person there by at least 5 years. I've discovered why musicians always drink before a performance, they need the beers to put up with the singers. I don't think I've ever seen so much alchol being consumed at once. Right off they didn't announce our song we were doing alone and had the singer on the stage before anyone had the right music. We did eventually do the song we were supposed to do. The man who sang Fly Me to the Moon totally missed a cue and I don't even really know what happened, all I know is that most of us got the last note in at the same time as him....it was bad.
Then they brought up this one singer(this was staged of course) that was supposed to do a duet with another woman and bring up some poor guy from the audience and totally humiliate him by sitting him down and singing Fever to him. The idea was that the one singer who was doing a spoof of Carol King I think didn't go up since they got in a fight so the host (30 yr. old man who couldn't really sing) was presented with lyrics and a boa and relunctantly sang Fever to this poor poor unsuspecting man from the audience. THAT was funny.
After a few more screwed up singers who couldn't follow directions we packed up and then some genius rudely took an hour away from us....I'm not impressed. So I slept in until about 10 (yesterday time) and have accomplished absolutely nothing today, I'm sooo lazy. But yesterday was awesome, I won my first ever public speaking plaque and I don't even have it, I didn't know until about 7 last night when I called while we were on break. Anyhow, I should go do something useful, like eat the ice cream bars we bought last night at about 12:)
