Mr. Sandman watches her change, watches the flicker that surrounds her, the shimmer that's not from the flashes but isn't separate from them, oh no, not at all.

Cool and interesting--I liked this.

Thanks! It's nothing like how I was originally envisioning it, which is weird. Stories don't normally get away from me like that. But I think what I had in my head was too big and sprawling, and I wanted to do something smaller, so this happened instead.

this is really interesting! i like the idea that patrick brings colour to pete's celebrity existence, this is probably true in many ways. that video was just so rich in so many things, visually, conceptually, it'll be interesting to see what comes of it. it reminds me of 80s and 90s pop art and collage.

But green is more than just a colour in this--it's a ~metaphor!

But yeah, Patrick brings a lot to Pete, and I think that is solid trufax in any possible story about them!

I haven't seen this video, which isn't really a surprise, so I suppose this isn't an "informed" comment.

But, whatevs. I always thought carousels were kind of creepy. The expressions on the animals faces, the animals never go anywhere, and the calliope music, ehhh. Especially surrounded by a moat, but moats are generally defensive in nature -- which also makes sense, given the amount of people who approach but never come over. Very interesting, and very desolate. Nothing is sadder than something that's supposed to be incredibly cheery being the exact opposite.

But, very visceral. Dreamy and... I don't know. I should watch this video and come back to read this again later.

Dude, you totally need to watch the video, it will make this story skew a lot differently--it's so solidly anchored in that world.

Really fucked up video, though.

but yeah, I think "dreamy" and "desolate" are excellent descriptors; that's more or less what I had in my mind as I was writing!

Dude. DUDE. This was really really good.
The whole ethereal and unreal feel to it, and the blankness followed by the explosion of color when Patrick gets there is just. Wow.
And I love your use of the flashbulbs and Pete's overstretched smile. I don't know why, but the visual there is absolutely lovely.
Great fic, loved reading it.
