Where the streets have slightly unfamiliar names.

Last night on the way to dinner I commented that the going rate on used bikes in Portland must be ridiculously cheap. Then, on the way back from dinner we saw two [hipster vintage] bikes for sale, on successive street corners, and they were both for 40 bucks. On the one hand, I was pleased that I was right about the going rate for a bike in Portland being super-cheap. On the other hand it seemed a little weird that they were both $40. But it puts a neat cap on the story, in the way that I can now go back to Seattle and be like "Oh in Portland you can get an *amazingly cool* bike for $40, on any street corner."

Also, once is an accident, twice a coincidence, three times a conspiracy. We didn't see three 40-dollar bikes, though, so it's ok. This little syllogism or whatever made Eve remember from Beverly Cleary (who was much amind, it being Oregon and all) "Once is funny, twice is silly, three times is a spanking." Yay! Shared childhood literary history amongst three cool girls out on the town in Portland [on a Monday. Eating tempeh.]

Bonus fun fact: were you aware that people in Portland will try and sell you hip-hop cds and weed, right on the street corner?
