Bombs Away...

the sound of the air raid siren is drowned out by screams of terror,
the bombs rain down in an endless barrage of horrific destruction.
blackout curtains obscure every window,
we must find shelter,
we must survive.
unfalthomable civilian casualties,
the death toll rises steadily
as the midnight sky glows with a hellish brilliance
and the once resplendent moon is now a deep red.
the night is lit up by flashes of light accompanied by deafening explosions
as our minds are filled with brief snapshots too stark to be real.
stumbling over the bodies of old friends and new aquaintences,
we run through the streets.
every door either barred or in flames,
there is nowhere to run,
nowhere to hide.
god help us.
