…holy crap, what is wrong with me? I can pretty much tell you right now that next year’s list will have nowhere near as much on it! But then again, most of the fics on this list were done spur-of-the-moment and took over my brain out of nowhere, so…who knows! Anyway…
[Approximate] Stats:
75 fic posts in 2010
- 33 one-shots
- 7 drabbles/ficlets
- 8 series
Total Word Count: ~313,000 (not actually a million. sorry.)
Overall thoughts/Leitmotif: First times and AUs. Pinto. Banter. Contrived angst to balance out a propensity for fluffy boyfriend-y love. Dipping a toe into kink.
My best story of this year: Trekkies in Love (as a series)
My favorite story of this year:
46th and Pine: A West Philadelphia Love Story Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Why You Gotta Waste My (Vulcan) Flavor? Apparently the people who read Kirk/McCoy are not the same people who have seen Can’t Hardly Wait.
Most fun story to write:
Can't See Straight. It took me less than three hours to write, it’s about drinking, and it’s based on a Lady Gaga song. What could be more fun than that?
Story with the single sexiest moment: “Not just mine,” Zach reminded him, tugging his t-shirt collar down with his teeth to lick at his chest. “It’s yours that’s sliding down my legs right now.” -
State of Mind Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
That Boy is a Monster. Obviously.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Wish Right Now. I probably can’t watch the movie without thinking of that fic now.
Trekkies a little, too, in the sense that I explored how personalities and a relationship might change over the years.
Hardest story to write:
Didn’t Love Me True. That fic sat for a long time before I finally made myself finish it…and then it went through an intense beta process where I deleted huge chunks of stuff and had to figure out new stuff to put in its place. On a deadline. But it was all worth it :-)
Favorite OC: Jed from Start a Fire. Followed by Jesse from Coffee Fix and Tasha from Trekkies. But really I love them all!
Biggest Disappointment: Starting but not finishing a 6th chapter of This is Us and a 4th installment in the Therapy ‘Verse
Biggest Surprise:
Wish Right Now - how it poured out of me and how nervous I was to post it and how much of an impression it seems to have left on people.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Coffee Fix (series). If you read it right, you can see my fears and desires stamped all over that shit in bold.
Story I haven't yet written, but intend to:
So many stories! Favorite 10 Opening Line(s):
Zach was making sweet, sweet love to a glass of red wine at the bar when he caught sight of Zoe out of the corner of his eye. - Can't See Straight
Zach cracked one eyelid open and swallowed dryly. His tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth. He felt naked. - I Can't Remember but it's Alright, Alright
Very few people had ever seen Chris Pine in a gay bar, and he sincerely hoped to keep it that way. - Glitter on the Floor
LtCmdrZach has entered the room.
jtk1980: \\// - Trekkies in Love, CONtinued
Hi Zach, This is Chris (jtk1980). I know it’s been a while - Trekkies in Love 3: All Our Yesterdays
Jim started squirming under the covers about forty-five minutes before the alarm was set to go off, flopping around and sighing and pretending that he wasn’t too excited to sleep - Perverse Christmas Cheer
Bones dreamt that he was batting clean-up for the Atlanta Braves. - Five Things Bones Did with Jim Kirk’s Massive Cock, and One Thing He Really Wanted to Do (He Swears) - #3
A young woman sits in a darkened room, the only light the glow from the computer screen. She clicks the mouse. Her eyes widen and she screams. She puts her hands over her mouth. The camera zooms in to show that her shoulders are shaking, tears are streaming down her cheeks. - Intervention: Pinto
McCoy had warned the captain. In fact, he was pretty sure he had mentioned it several times, so he didn't know why Kirk was so surprised when the first tentacle slid over the rail with an unsettling slurping sound. - Here There Be Monsters
“Hey dad-bros,” Jesse said, hopping over the couch to flop down next to them. - Coffee Fix, “Priorities”
Favorite 10 Closing Line(s):
He took a deep breath, then opened his eyes and sniffed at the sleeve of his t-shirt. “Hey,” he said, scooting closer to Zach. “Does this t-shirt smell weird to you?” - Shop Boy
"No, I'm serious. I want to make sure she's not having sex. We can't handle another one, I swear." - Coffee Fix, "Jennifer"
“Hi, little Gavin,” Zach said. “We’re your dads.” - Coffee Fix, "Gavin"
Chris pressed his lips to Zach’s temple and closed his eyes and whispered a promise that he would someday break. “I’ll keep you safe.” - That Boy is a Monster
Chris’s laugh lit up the darkness, and he steered them into the night toward home. - Trekkies in Love 4: The Motion Picture
Zach pulled the vial from his pocket, and emptied it onto the sand. - Didn’t Love Me True
Chris leaned over to steal a cool hazelnut kiss from Zach’s lips. “I love fucking you, too.” - Nice Vest, Wanna Fuck?
Chris felt a flutter of nerves, a familiar rush of anticipation in his stomach. “I will.” His eyes flicked back to the book on the table and he smiled. “Prepare the way.”
Zach grinned and slumped back into his seat as the lights of the city sped past. “The great work begins.” - Threshold of Revelation
Zach kissed him hard on the mouth, and mumbled against his lips. “So much better than cake.”
As Zach’s arms wrapped around him, pulling him close, Chris found himself inclined to agree.
And he really liked cake. - Happy Beyond Birthdays
Chris shook his head. “Just…I swore I was going to stay sober,” he said. He looked up to meet Zach’s eyes. “But the room’s already spinning.”
Zach smiled and tightened his arms around Chris, kissed him gently on the temple, and whispered in his ear. “Maybe we should go lie down.” - Intoxication
Favorite 10 Line(s) from Anywhere:
Chris’s eyes slammed shut and his mouth dropped open as pleasure twisted up through him, throbbing in the pulse of his bruising wrists. - Nice Vest, Wanna Fuck?
Then Chris did that thing with his hand that Zach had spent a year trying to recreate and two years trying to forget, but it only took one second for Chris to pull him apart, tears blurring his eyes as he came over Chris’s hand. - Coffee Fix, “First Kiss”
"So let me see if I have this right,” he said with a smirk. “It took almost two years for you to admit that you liked me, and one week to ask me to come on your face?" - Five Things Bones Did with Jim Kirk’s Massive Cock, and One Thing He Really Wanted to Do (He Swears)
“Let me cut to the chase. Cuddling is great, but we’re going to need ridiculous amounts of sex to make up for this heavy shit.”
“I think you’re right.”
“And possibly a romantic comedy or two.”
“Which do you want first?”
“I was thinking a maybe blowjob midway through You’ve Got Mail for starters.” - Doctor-Patient Privilege
”So, is there anyone else in your life?”
“Yeah. You’re competing with my right hand, a DVD of Heroes, and a bottle of strawberry lube.”
“So you’re saying I have no chance.” - Talk About This
“Computer, delete image,” he said with finality.
“Image Jim Kirk’s Massive Cock has been deleted,” the computer replied. - Five Times Dr. McCoy Saw Jim Kirk’s Massive Cock, and One Time Bones Did
Chris nodded. “You were regressing a little. I had to intervene before you punched someone out for doing the ta’al with the thumb in.”
Zach gave him a look of horror - Trekkies in Love 4: The Motion Picture
Or maybe he didn’t want to miss another single second of what they had, of what they’d lost and found again, of spaghetti tacos and wine in sippy cups and whatever else they would dream up next. - Coffee Fix, “Ciao, Mexico”
”I’ll come over after the interview and fuck you wearing nothing but my suit jacket and tie.”
“Mmm, tempting, but in case you haven’t noticed, I’m not really into being fucked by The Man.”
“You’re hilarious. Fine, how ‘bout you fuck me, then, and live out all of your communist fantasies by coming all over my face.” - 46th and Pine
“You got something to say about magical ice cube elves now, bitch?” - Icy Cold
Top 10 Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated:
In the silence that followed, Chris imagined he could almost see Zach through the trailer wall, resting his forehead against the warm metal just inches away. - Didn’t Love Me True
He recognized the picture, of course he did, he had the same one, worn around the edges and still sticky on the back from when he’d had it hanging on his wall freshman year. The two of them, their young faces grinning into the camera, sleep rumpled, cheeks just touching as they leaned close together on the hotel bed. The picture was in a dark wood frame, the glass in front cracked in two places. Chris winced. He could probably guess when that had happened.
or maybe this one:
But Zach hadn’t removed all evidence of him, since under the blank space was a picture of the two of them, side by side in their uniforms, Chris grinning like an idiot at the camera and Zach trying to look stoically Vulcan or some shit.
“Did we actually think those haircuts were cool?” - Trekkies in Love 3: All Our Yesterdays
“McCoy, you’re aware of the captain’s accomplishments and his contributions to the field of xenobiology.” Bones cursed the existence of peripheral vision as he saw Jim give his crotch a thumbs-up. “It’s because of the captain that we have such a thorough understanding of a number of species.” Jim did a little bow, and Bones wondered if it would be unprofessional to pull out his flask in the middle of a meeting. And was it just him, or was Calder applying a particular emphasis whenever he said the word captain. “The Academy has requested that we give the entire class of incoming cadets a chance to be introduced to the captain.” Jim’s mouth dropped open in silent laughter. - Five Times Bones Didn’t See Jim Kirk’s Massive Cock, and One Time He Didn’t Need To
Zach quirked an eyebrow and nodded his head slightly, keeping the marshmallow stick raised to his mouth. Chris leaned forward slowly, licking his lips in anticipation. Zach opened his mouth to get another taste, and Chris surged forward, biting into the marshmallow from the other side. Zach’s eyes widened in shock as their lips brushed, and neither of them pulled away. - Start a Fire
Chris stood calmly until he heard the apartment door close. Then he spun around and rocked out a little dance, complete with finger snapping, ass wiggling, and a particularly enthusiastic air guitar finish. He opened his eyes to find Zach watching him from the doorway of the kitchen, a hand over his mouth to keep from laughing. Chris felt a hot blush creep up his cheeks. - Dance to This
McCoy changed and sat on the bed, periodically glancing up from his PADD to watch Jim, to watch the tension drain from his shoulders as the hardest decision he had to make became which color to use next. Finally, Jim stood and walked over to the bed, clutching a drawing in his hand. He flopped down beside McCoy and showed it to him. A rocket ship, an ancient model, silver and red against the background of a night sky. A smiling blond stick figure waved from the window. McCoy smiled. - Wish Right Now
“Hey gorgeous,” he said, and Chris was embarrassed to feel himself blush as though he’d never been faced with a flirty gay bartender before. The guy dropped his eyes and dragged them slowly up Chris’s chest, smirking as he met Chris’s stare. “Can I get you a cock…tail?” he asked with a wink. Chris opened his mouth and closed it again, dizzy with the rush of blood from his brain as his body responded to the sultry tone, the dark eyes rimmed in eyeliner, perfect hair sprinkled with what he was pretty sure was glitter. The bartender ran a hand through his hair, and a shower of silver sparkles drifted onto the bar. “Friday,” he said, shrugging. - Glitter on the Floor
“SLIP-N-SLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE!!!!!!!!!” Anton yelled, barreling through the crowd and hurling himself down the long slick slide, clutching a Rocket Pop in one hand. He slammed over the bump and splashed down into the shallow pool with a shriek of laughter.
“He is going to poke his fucking eye out,” Zach murmured.
Chris nodded. “And then he’s going to puke.” - Happy Beyond Birthdays
They were gathered in a semi-circle around the fire, people, like him, but different - smiling, all of them, laughing without malice. Dirt streaked their clothes and faces and some of them had leaves strewn in their hair, but they didn’t seem to mind. He looked at them all, but his eyes came to rest on the one closest to him, the tall one with dark hair and graceful limbs leaning down to fuss with a paper birthday hat adorning the shaggy gray dog beside him. - A Wild Rumpus
The picture had been on a shelf in the hall forever, but it had been a while since they'd taken the time to really look at it, to remember how perfectly it had captured that moment in time. Chris and Zach, in jeans and t-shirts on the couch, the boys at ages two and four, every picture from those years an action shot. Chris was laughing, his mouth open and his eyes crinkled shut as he clung to Jesse, who had managed to flop backwards over his lap until his head almost touched the ground. Next to him, Zach held onto Gavin’s chubby little hands and gave the three of them a tolerant look that somehow managed to encompass all the love he had for their little family - all the love he had in the world. - Coffee Fix, “Our Boy”
