A/N: Ficlet written for
lady_eilthana - I hope you like this.
Jensen liked to think he knew almost everything about Jared; it’d be hard not to after knowing him from the age of seven. He knew the name of Jared’s first pet, the food that Jared liked the most and he knew when Jared was upset. He knew how Jared had got the scar on his right knee, although Jensen still wouldn’t accept the blame for that one; no-one had forced Jared to climb up the tree. He even knew things that Jared didn’t know about himself, like the way he smiled in a different way when he looked at his little sister or the way his Mom had cried as soon as the car was out of sight when he’d gone off to college.
Yeah, Jensen knew Jared very well, probably as well as he knew himself so when Jared told him - whispered it into his ear, actually - Jensen would’ve expected anything, really. He knew Jared pretty damn well, after all, had known that Jared was going to ask him out when they were fifteen before Jared even knew. But he hadn’t expected this.
“You did what?” He looked at Jared, watching for any sign that he was joking but there was a little wrinkle above his nose so apparently he was being serious.
“I kind of, accidentally said we’d host the reunion here.”
“The reunion.” He paused. “As in that time of year where all of the Padalecki’s and Ackles’ descend on one place and madness ensues, food is consumed and the venue is evaluated, cleaned, picked apart by both of our mothers? That reunion?”
Jared winced, taking an unconscious step backwards. “Yeah. That one. Look, your Mom was complaining because they couldn’t find a place that was big enough where the weather would be good and she was talking about renting out this massive cabin and I just thought - I mean, wouldn’t you have just thought? I just thought it seemed stupid paying out money when we have room here.”
“Yeah. Yeah, okay. That totally makes sense.”
“Really?”
“No. Jared, there’s a reason they always have to pay for somewhere now. It’s because no-one is stupid enough to volunteer their own homes to be inspected by our parents.”
“I like our home.”
“So do I. Which is why I’d rather not stress about making sure every inch is spotless and hiding all the lube.”
Jared laughed, glancing towards the drawer where one of their stashes was. “Look, they’re our families and I want to see them and help them out by letting everyone stay here. But I’m not going to go into this whole freaking out about what they think thing. We’ll clean up just the same as we would if Tommy or someone was coming to stay and that’s it, yeah?”
Jensen nodded, looking around their living room. It wasn’t like their house was messy or anything; it was comfortable and clean and there was enough space where people would be able to find somewhere to be by themselves for a while if they needed time out from the hectic reunion. And he did always enjoy seeing his family and Jared’s too.
“I know I should have run it by you first.” Jared moved closer again, reaching out to tangle their fingers together. “But it’ll be fun, right? And it means we won’t have to travel to see everyone.”
“Yeah, okay. As long as you promise not to volunteer for us to cook for everyone, too.”
“I promise. Although I reckon I’d look pretty hot in an apron.”
“Considering the last time I saw you in an apron you were eight years old, I really wouldn’t know.” Jensen smirked. “We should find out, though.”
The look on Jared’s face told him everything he needed to know; after all, he’d known Jared long enough to recognise his ‘I’m getting ready to tickle’ stance.
