Okay, this was a FANTASTIC, KICK-ASS episode. It had EVERYTHING. Family moments. Twists. Comedy. Gore. Evil cliffhangers. Digs at politicians. I’m going to try and talk about these things in a sort of chronological order.
The opening of this episode was absolutely fantastic - the use of the nature sounds to add the sense of irony and the sleeping bag human burrito and the bits of human falling to the ground. Gross and gory and classic SPN.
I really liked that we got to see the guys arriving at a new base, glimpses of them settling in. Also, Dean’s complaining. I get that part of it was just complaining but I also saw it as Dean really trying to be honest/talk about where he is at the moment (there’s a reason they showed the bits they showed in the recaps) and I really liked that (as well as the role reversal with SAM asking if DEAN was okay.)
Loved the mention of glampers and the mocking of them - of course it’d make even less sense to hunters than it does to everyday people.
The whole Brandon vs Dean thing was really funny. Dean’s awful comeback ‘do you wanna look like a hostess?’ and the ‘Ken doll’ and it was all great.
Oooh, and we got more Bobby background - he was actually a hunter before he was a hunter. Aww, Dean talking about spending time with Bobby when they were kids, going hunting. The whole Bambi’s mother thing. I love this, the fact there’s a direct acknowledgement that Bobby was definitely a part of their childhood and hunting training.
Dissecting Gerald truly was disgusting. The type of disgusting that Eric Kripke usually approves of.
I like the way they’ve taken something normal for the show (Dean being hungry) and exaggerated it and twisted it to make it part of the plot - it’s something they seem to be doing a lot this season and it works really well.
Dean being all stoned from the sandwich. And then the squelchy stuff coming out of it and the ‘I think you pissed off my sandwich’
Sam asking Bobby if he’s worried about Dean. Awww. And then they about Sam’s ‘crazy’ and he did the hand thing again. This is definitely becoming a theme.
And then Bobby and Dean have a talk. ‘You’re not a person’ ‘You die before me and I’ll kill you’ (ouch, horrible foreshadowing there show.)
Uhoh, it’s the main guy, Dick (this changes things up A LOT) Omg, all the manips. And ‘The rise of Dick’. Dick is truly an
awesome Supernatural villain.
Haha, about Crowley: ‘I thought he was just being general’
BOBBY - were the heart to hearts a way of us saying goodbye to him? I honestly wasn’t expecting that and I honestly am still not sure whether he’s dead or whatever else and it’s such a classic SPN cliffhanger.
Anyway, awesome episode. To sum up: Dean is awesome, Sam is awesome, boss!leviathan is awesome. And I really hope awesome!Bobby is actually alive.
