Supernatural 7.08 Reaction

Okay, so this episode was a little…out there. I’ve been avoiding spoilers so I wasn’t expecting a Sam and Becky wedding AT ALL. I’m not going to lie, parts of this episode were a little over the top but I still enjoyed it in a weird kind of way. It’s one of those episodes where there’s kind of not that much of substance to comment on (I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced that with SPN before) but it was still kind of fun to watch because:

-Jared and Jensen’s comedic timing was, as always, spot on.

- Crowley was kickass and gorgeous at the end. I love him!

- I really liked that they took a MOTW that we’re so familiar with and gave the demon a twist.

- The wedding cake titles were AMAZING. I love how they’ve worked the openings in this season, so beautiful.

- The ending with Sam and Dean riding off together was nice.

- I liked the character of Garth - I’m really hoping there’s a greater significance to his character than just this episode because it’s not really like SPN to just bring in a random character like that. And he was a pretty good character, could be awesome if developed in the right way. I thought it was slightly OOC for Dean to just trust the guy BUT he was recommended by Bobby and, also, maybe it’s just me who thinks this but I reckon it was also the fact that Garth was (and I quote Sam) ‘scrawny’. I think if Garth had have been built similarly to Dean or Sam or whatever then Dean might have seen him as more of a threat. (And THAT does fit in with Dean’s characterisation.)

Okay, the portrayal of Becky went a bit TOO over the top for me but in the ‘some of this is more crazy rather than funny’ way rather than the ‘I’m really insulted by this portrayal of fans kind of way’. Everyone watching the show, involved with the show, anything to do with the show knows that the majority of us fans are not crazy in the least. This is a tv show which means that things get exaggerated. So yeah, I get why some people might have been offended but, personally, it didn’t bother me.

I do think it was the weakest episode so far this season but I still liked it. I think it’d have been better if it had tied in more to the overall plot of the season because I think that the continuity of the season’s storyline was what made all the other episodes so strong.
