Book: One Day
Author: David Nicholls
Time taken to read: One and a half days

Okay, so for anyone who doesn't already know, this book has recently been made into a film (starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess) I really, really recommend reading this book first if you're planning to see the film because it is SO worth it. It's also worth it if you're not planning to see the film. There are spoilers under the cut.

This is one of those books that you don't want to put down, you just want to keep reading and reading until you know what happens to the characters because you fall in love with them. The friendship/relationship/whatever you want to call it between the two main characters, Emma and Dexter or 'Em and Dex, Dex and Em' is just enchanting. They both have their flaws and it doesn't matter because you still fall in love with them both.

The structure of the novel is unusual and clever; each chapter is a day of a new year where we find out where Dexter and Emma are, some of what they've been up to and how their relationship has progressed. And right from the start I found myself wanting to know what happens next year and all the days in-between, the ones we're not allowed to read about.

I think what I loved most about this book is that the characters and relationships aren't perfect but they're real and I became so invested in them. I'm not going to spoil the ending so if you want to know if they get their happy ever after you'll have to read it for yourself. This book was funny, sad, charming and easy to relate to. Go read it :)
