i'm at school right now, it's saturday at 11:42 a.m. It's tech rehearsal for the good person of szechuan. I'll be here til 10 pm, and then tomorrow 10 a.m. to 10 pm, and then Monday through Sunday from 5:30 p.m. till god knows when, and then the next thursday through the next sunday for about 5 hours a day. Basically i am putting about 80 hours into this thing, to fulfil TA 50, which is supposed to be a 50 hour commitment. Oh well. I brought my computer so i could work on the midterm study questions, cuz the midterm is on wednesday for my class. But so far i've just read pinkisthenewblog.com and checked my email, and now i'm writing this. I've been here for an hour and 45 minutes and they're still working on the first cue of the show. Where yang makes the announcement to the audience to turn off their cell phones, and then all the "gods" come on and yell a lot. This is like the first 5 minutes of the show. Last night, the show ran three and a half hours long. It's going to be a long day.
However, although i have a lot to do i will have a lot of free time, it would seem. I'm pretty hungry though and bored. I should start on my midterm study questions. There are 15, and they are all of the calibre of
"Riders to the Sea was a result of Synge's return from French Symbolist circles and emersion in the life of the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. Some found the romantic depiction of the "folk" by a slumming offshoot of the aristocratic Protestant establishment. Give plot details which may have given rise to this argument and consider political circumstances that may have caused Synge to seek models of a future Ireland he wanted to live in far to the west".
I know. You can't even read it without zoning out, imagine writing a response to it.
Wish me luck. If anyone want to send me funny emails, you should do so.
ekitchen at ucsc.edu. hurrah.
Did i mention i'm sitting in like a dungeon? I'm in one of the "voms" which i'm pretty sure is short for "vomitarium". It's like, basically a little dark dungeon down a ramp from the stage. It's beutiful outside and i'm in a dungeon. It's sad. Normally i would be at work. At least i'd be getting paid, though.
