so
I just got a bid to join Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji, Green House for those of you who know what that is). And I think I want to join. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? I really want to know what all of you think on this, don't be afraid to comment please.

As a member of two fraternities (granted, neither are strictly "social" on Albion's campus), I can say the whole "fraternity" experience can be a rewarding one. While I have no specific experience with Phi Gamma Delta and can't comment on them as an organization, I can say that the stereotypical "Animal House" type fraternities are more the exception than the norm.

The most important thing about pledging a Fraternity is feeling comfortable with the people in your pledge class and your future brothers. Fraternities are extremely powerful commitments and, as such, the decision to join one shouldn't be taken lightly. The initial elation of getting a bid to a fraternity can wear off quickly if you aren't ready or are unsure of things. Before accepting, be absolutely sure that pledging is the right thing for you to do at this point in time. If there is any doubt in your mind, talk to someone in the fraternity who you know really well and who you trust to give you a straight answer. No fraternity (I hope) wants to force membership on anyone, so they will most likely take any concerns that you have and help you work through them to whichever end best suits you.

For most people, joining a fraternity is one of the most powerful and best things that they do. I know it was for me. For others, it is the worst decision they make (because they rushed into it and didn't think it completely through). Hopefully, if you decide to pledge, you will be one of the former.

So, in summary: 1) Make sure you are comfortable with the house and the brothers. 2) If you have any questions or concerns ask before making a commitment. 3) Don’t think that this will be your only chance at joining. If things are too hectic, wait a semester / year. The fraternity isn’t going anywhere.

If you have any question regarding fraternity life, feel free to ask.

PS: I know Matt Carlesimo, and he's a pretty cool guy. That really didn't have any bearing on anything, I was just looking at their website and thought it was interesting. Ha.

He = an Eagle Scout (I think) He's done a lot of the same things I have with Scouts. I was even his boss a couple of times.
