It weekends like these that make a six day work week all worth it. Not saying I feel like working six days a week every week, but I went off better than expected.
Friday was good times with a rowdy bunch of Gonzaga guys. I went to Jim’s house and then drover him, Razz and Terry over to David Dekeyser’s house to hang out for awhile. The people at David’s when we got there I’d never met before but a few beers, a basket of chips and a camera later and all was good. Follow that up but a 2 am trip to Wendys and it made for a pretty good evening.
Sleeping on the floor only sounds like a good idea when you’re tried. The next thing you know it’s 7 am and your back is in a knot. Thankfully a couch was open and I didn’t have to work till 1 so I got at least some sleep that night, but as always nowhere nearly enough.
Coming home from work I decided I was going to try and different route going home. Instead or taking the GW parkway to the beltway, I was going to take the parkway to 395 to 295 to the beltway. Unfortunately the old DC saying that “all roads lead to Anacostia” proved to be true once again. Note to self when you have a deadline, don’t try and new way to get home.
That night I met Franny and her friend Micah down at the 9:30 club for “An Evening with the Driver by Truckers,” a band I had heard a song or two from before but not nearly enough to truly appreciate them. The show was broadcast live on NPR (
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5546929) and I think if you listen closely enough you can hear me yelling I’m sure. The set lasted three hours with the encore. I really don’t think I’ve ever seen that before and I’ll just come right out and say I was very impressed. Unfortunately I didn’t know enough of the bands music to truly appreciate it as much as I could have. Not to mention my back was still killing me from the night before; at about hour two I was pretty sure it was going to give way.
Right after the show Franny with all her XM intern skills managed to get us backstage. Not the backstage itself isn’t anything jaw dropping, but the whole notion of getting to go backstage was itself amazing. I doubt I’ll be going backstage again anytime soon, but it was an awesome experience and one think I can cross off of my list of things I’ve done.
Now normally one would think the story ends there and usually that would be true. But on the metro ride home I ran into a former Gonzaga classmate who I really haven’t seen since graduation. We could only say hi and bye because we both had trains to catch, but it was still good to see Rags. On the Redline train I caught I ran into a few interesting characters. Among others, I met a man from Philly, and I woman from England who was in town visiting family and attempting to make a new start. It’s always fun to see the people you met on metro late into the night, and something I’ll miss when I leave for school.
