Spring without winter

Right now, my life is a spring without a winter.

Literally, it was 60 degrees yesterday, and the crocuses and daffodils are blooming everywhere, and we have had no real snow. There has been no hibernation period, no extended time of darkness or cold or rain or snow to make us long for and really appreciate spring. So now that it seems to have come early, without the winter for comparison... I feel like I'm not ready for it! I need my winter and cold to refresh me and give me the feeling of a true emergence into the new year. I absolutely agree with Garrison Keillor on this week's Prairie Home Companion: it's strangely warm and its not a good thing and I want my real winter!

But figuratively, (ignoring my love of winter and using the metaphor of 'spring' in its more common meaning) my life is joy without conditions. Ever since I started this grad program, every day has been newness and growth and learning and stretching and victories and some frustrations, yes, but the challenges have all been worth it.

Yesterday the orchid show finally opened at the U.S. Botanic Garden, and I finally got to see the orchid disocery cart (my project of the last 5 weeks) in action. I ran the cart from 10:30 to 2:00, had 157 visitors, and countless great moments of learning with them. The hours truly flew by, and I had an amazing time. It's so validating to finally see my work in action and to get so much positive feedback!!

And I'm dancing more (still feeling a bit weak, but it's coming along), and Sarah is wonderful, and the kitties are adorable.

So if I can have all that and a little snow, life will be perfect. :-)
