Start the year healthy!

It seems that my health care appointments have all clustered in the beginning of the year. At first I had appointments while I was home for winter breaks from college, or for the holidays after graduating, but now that I've finally got all my doctors within a 20-mile radius it's been better. Of course, with insurance only covering one visit per 365 days (for most things), each year the appointment creeps a few days later (hence it's mostly January-February instead of December). It's somewhat tough that the rapid succession of copays comes right on the heels of the Christmas shopping season and the paychecks that are missing the days I take off to go home, but there's not much I can do about that.

So in the past month I've had my annual physical, OB/GYN check up, two chiropractor visits (with a third scheduled for early March to see how things are holding up through my increased dancing), today I saw an eye doctor for the first time in 2 years, and tomorrow I see the dentist for the first time in about 3 years. Bad, I know, but I was poor and my insurance doesn't cover dental!

Still, I'm feeling good about it all. Today's eye exam was the one I was most excited about; I spent most of yesterday chirping to my office-mate, "tomorrow I'll be able to see!" I have a hunch that some of my back problems are due to unconsciously leaning toward the computer screen because my glasses are super out-of-date. As I thought, my astigmatism has gotten a bit worse. But the trial lenses he popped into the office frames today were AMAZING, I'd forgotten that it's possible to read things from across the room! I'm scoping out various options for where to get the glasses themselves (Sarah's family recommended this doctor, who is wonderful, but told me glasses are expensive there and suggested some other places to buy frames). And I'll be getting new contacts too, so no more squinting while in dance class or rehearsal. YAY!

Taking care of my health was one of the first things I jumped on when I graduated, and it's still one of the things that makes me feel the most grown-up. All things seem to be in order at the moment - I'm becoming more aware of how to care for my body and continue dancing while still being mindful of my back and spine. Still overall healthy.

Life is good. :-)
