I've been busy being proactive and even productive tonight but I thought I would take a moment to say how I will be avoiding the advice on NPR/TPR this morning. DH told me about it, actually, and I have not even considered looking it up for the first dereliction of my sustainable yarding duties. I find it incredible though, that they recommended asiatic jasmine for a hardy xeriscape plant. Do they mean bringing in alien plants for hostile takeover?! The stuff is made of steel! Roundup won't touch it, it must be removed by force. It eats trees. I find it slightly ironic that it came recommended a day after i launched my last attack on it: with the gnashing of the metal rake and flailing with the weedwhacker. Boy, that was good fun.
Seriously, xeriscaping is gardening for drought resistance though at first glace it seems otherworldly, like the opposite of gardening with native plants. I and many newcomers to the area are not etymologists.
