I'm going to talk about Warcraft for a bit, so if you don't think you can stomach a story about me getting my mage on, you can stop at
Katie's blog and read about the 31 flavors of suckage at her local Baskin Robbins.
So there I was in Southshore with my hunter, minding my own business and hunting mountain lions for the local horse breeder who was tired of lions sneaking in at night and killing his horses. He's agreed to pay me a nice sum of money AND give me some free armor if I did this for him, so I load my gun, feed my pet snow leopard Caboose, and head for the mountains. Now I play on a server where members of the opposing force can kill you pretty much anywhere and it's quite common to have somebody much more powerful than you come up from behind and waste you without a second thought. This happened to my poor hunter. I was killing a lion when a hunter starts firing at me from behind a tree. Since I was already hurt from fighting the lion, I couldn't mount much of a defense. As my hunter lie there dead, it occured to me that I have a much more powerful mage and I don't have to take this shit. I load up my mage and head back to the spot, but the enemy hunter isn't there. I was pissed. I wanted to kill something. Right now. I know, I know, revenge is quite unbecoming, but bear in mind that this is a game and what did you do when a bully picked on you at the playground? Right, you went and found somebody bigger than the bully.
I'm starting to like putting pictures in my posts. This is my mage, Hastur, powering up a fireball. Now let me head off the obvious questions. Yes, I know she's a woman. Yes, I know that I am not. Why did I pick a woman to be my mage then? Well, and permit me to think like a guy here, if I have to spend all this time with my character doing quests, killing monsters, and messing with the Horde, it might as well be with someone I can look at from behind for hours on end without feeling weird. That and the male models look stupid. Trust me.
So where was I? Ahh yes, needed to kill something. Not finding any Horde to take my frustration out on in Southshore, I rode to nearby Arathi to sign up for the Battlegrounds at Refuge Pointe so the Horde would come to me. The wait to get in was ridiculous, but I put my name in anyway and took a seat. It's worse than the DMV sometimes, I shit you not. I then got the idea to ride around Arathi and see if I could pick a fight around there. Again, nothing. Discouraged, I tried to figure out what to do with myself. You can't expect somebody who can conjure fireballs from thin air to sit still. Of course! If I assault the Horde town, they'll hear about it and come running to defend it. Yep, I was about to start my own little war. I rode up to the Horde town of Hammerfall and started picking off the guards. My plan went off without a hitch and within minutes Horde players began flying in from all over. I retreated to Refuge Pointe and waited. Sure enough, the Horde came right to where I was and, with the help of other Alliance players waiting for their turn at the Battlegrounds and the computer controlled guards, we slaughtered the lot of them, over and over. I got killed my fair share as well, but death isn't a permanent thing in World of Warcraft, so it's no big deal. I'm sure the Horde enjoyed our little skirmish as much as we did; we were at it for about an hour. After a great time was had by all, I flew off to the comfort of Ironforge and signed off.
You know, I never did finish that quest with my hunter LOL!
