America Owns china in many ways.... besides China isn't all its cracked up to be and it can posture as a super power as much as it likes, it has too many interests to start picking fights in the world especially as it is becoming more and more capitalist... the communism is dying away and the people of china are not brainwashed into being communbist like Nort Korea is. In my opinion NK is a puppet of china, because even China isn't stupid enough to have a dodgy unstable country right near it flinging missiles at the most powerful nation on the planet. A nation that Chinas defense, Internet, commercial and home computer systems are manufactured by. Besides china is having problems of its own and there are a lot of social issues it has to deal with... Forced Sterilisation of women after givin birth is not appeasing chinas people, neither is oppressing them and censoring everything.

the middle east will tick over bit by bit... but even if a nuclear device is used against a nation it won't be world ending, it will be a national tradegy and spur more in UK/USA favour of ousting terrorism, along with factions that will argue that UK/USA action has caused an incident like this.... Al Quaeda have said themselves they will not use nuclear weapons unless used upon them first, as too have NK. Iran is a pain but it isn't totally stupid, it will fall back into line as it also has a lot to lose, I still have some faith in the UN not much but some and I think that non-militarily there are things going on, russia is a supporter of iran, but even russia will not jeopardise its own interests, especially as Putin although acts within his own interets he is quite level headed and I don't think is gonna turn into the next Red revolution attempting to bring about revolution in every country then start another cold war. Russia is now capitalist.

As for Israel and Lebanon this is nothing, Israel will not go in and occupy, its just giving Lebanon a bloody nose (even if it was going to conquer Lebanon it wouldn't stay it would trample it and then leave) and if the Lebanese are smart they will get rid of Hezbollah and things can cool down. Unfortunately there will always be tension, civil strife and terrorism its just the way it is. WW1 saw a change in warfare with the tank, WW2 saw Blitzkrieg, Korea/Vietnam saw Guerilla war adapt to modern weaponry, then Iraq saw technical war come about, now we are having a secret war tracking down terrorist cells. Its not just up to the military to sort affairs out now but cilivilian institutions like the police and community groups to oust threats... when the public is willing to start work things may look up, but they are barely looking down at the moment. Things are abit muddy politically, but so was the Cuban Missile crisis and finger WERE hovering over buttons back then. Now there is more diplomacy.

There are also still fingers. At the moment they're stuck in too many pies, but those infamous buttons aren't all that far away.

You're right, most the world wouldn't attempt anything on a nuclear scale due to sheer fear of the retaliation. The larger countries are tied to closely economically and sociologically, whereas the smaller nations won't due to the fact that a few small warheads could decimate anything of value they have.

Still, the political landscape, especially on an international level, is very chaotic and turbulent. Maybe something in some back room deal somewhere might just force something to happen which could then escalate - bit paperback thriller, but a lot of politics more interesting debarcles have started with a miss-heard word, an unwelcome point of view or the like.

I'm reserving judgement for the moment. Devils advocate me, on that fence and getting comfy mofo!
