Malaysia Day 2

Feb 07, 2011 13:17

Well check out was at noon, and I woke up at quarter to..haha. I went and spoke to the front desk and they said I could be a little bit late no problem. So I quickly got ready and packed my stuff, I asked them to call me a cab but when I showed them the address they said it was just a few minutes away. My bag is ridiculous...it weighs about 50 lbs. And yes I can walk with it, but this wasn't just a few minute walk. This was a straight up hill battle. And I sweat it out for a good 15 minutes before having to climb 2 flights of stairs.

The girl at the front desk immediately came to my rescue when she saw me, holding open the door and waiting for me to catch my breath. She was warm and sweet and introduced herself as the daughter of the family (it was a family run hostel). I immediately felt at ease seeing the people laughing and having beer, the few huddled around a computer, and the warmth this place gave off. After she took me to my room, to my bed, and told me she would be there to help me, I decided it made more sense to get out and do something that day. As I went back to the front, another girl was asking for directions to the bus junction, where I had to go as well to buy my ticket back to Singapore. So we decided it would make more sense if we went together. Her name was Anne Marie and we had a great few hours together, we stopped for some food, had a drink, and chatted about our travels so far. After she had left with her ticket and I had gotten mine, it started pouring rain. It had been pretty hot throughout the day so I wasn't complaining. I saw a police shelter and decided to hide underneath that for awhile, the cop saw my struggle and took out his umbrella and walked me back to the bus stop. So Sweet!

Next I headed from the trains to the subway to my next destination, the Batu caves. 'Batu Caves is a limestone hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, located in Gombak district, 13 kilometres (8 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.'

I met this really nice couple from Manchester and they let me tag along as we were headed to the same place. The caves were beyond the description and pictures I had seen, it was so amazing to see. The climb to the top isnt as bad as I imagined and can be done in flip flops no problem. The hot weather and the monkeys are more of a danger. Some of the monkeys are so forward that I actually saw them attack some people and laugh when they freaked out. Haha. Ok i did too... When we got to the top of the caves it was quite surreal to see. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't capture the intensity of the caves. We weren't there long but I am so glad I got to see it. Oh my way home I stopped off in an Indian restaurant because I was having cravings. I had planned to go to little india tomorrow anyways, but it just looked so good. The food wasn't cheap but I had some delicious kofte. I came back to the hostel to work on my 10 million post cards. I honestly don't think I can buy 20 in every place I go, after the first 5 I feel like I'm just repeating myself, plus writing in my note book and then writing in detail online, its too much. I have decided that 6 post cards per place will do, and I will write perhaps when I have interesting things to document. Not just every single day because I feel like I have to.

At night it was nice and quiet. The son...or the cousin, I don't know, some member of the family who was around my age was talking to me about my hair. I told him how I planned to shave it again but it was hard to do myself because I often missed spots, so he offered to do it for me! he did a wonderful job and I was sporting the mister clean look again. I spent several hours into the night talking to my friends and catching up on emails. The next thing I knew it was 5 am....crap! Time to go to sleep
