background/history link:
here personality:
Intelligent, cunning, narcissistic, sarcastic, dignified, but also disdainful, arrogant, selfish and a coward.
Scar likely stood in the shadow of his brother for the majority of his life, which gave birth to jealousy and bitterness at not being recognized for the wonder he himself was. At least the song “Be Prepared” implies that by becoming King, he would finally be able to prove that he wasn’t any less than Mufasa. No, he was much better! He deserves much better. And he believes himself to be the rightful heir to the throne. And when he would become King, others would certainly learn as well. He can’t stand it his brother got the throne and all the awesome respect that came with it. He is a rather ambitious individual, I dare say.
Scar is more intelligent than the average lion (or animal in the Pride Lands, it would seem), and he knows he is. He knows it’s the very thing that compensates for his weakness, and because of that he relies more on brains rather than strength. This makes him more than capable to be a cunning and manipulative bastard, and along with the natural charisma he seems to possess, he can gain people’s trust and convince others to do his bidding easily. He isn’t above lying or making empty promises or saying “a little too much”. You know, slipping some stuff that shouldn’t be slipped just to make a naive little cub go somewhere where he isn’t supposed to, simply because said cub is so curious and adventurous. It worked perfectly! However, if he must he would dirty his hands. Or paws. He’d also use this cunning to exploit other people’s mental weaknesses, if that is of any advantage to him. He’d play on other people’s guilt, especially.
His intelligence is also what makes him rather….confident, to the point of being arrogant and narcissistic. He obviously looks down on a lot of other people, thinking them as brainless idiots or something along those lines. He also has little patience for stupidty, but is on the other hand willing to put up with it if it means he can gain something from it (one word: hyenas).
But bitterness, intelligence and arrogance make for some sarcastic remarks. Scar is incredibly cynical, and tends to provide plenty of sarcastic remarks. That doesn’t mean that Scar can’t act politely or pleasant, but that’s often but a mere facade. There aren’t a whole lot of people that Scar respects, and he isn’t quite afraid to . This does make him rather two-faced, however.
That is not quite all, however. Though Scar is aware of his physical weakness, he is not quite aware of any other shortcomings he has. He puts the blame of his bad ruling on others, and simply insists that he is a much better King than Mufasa had been, even if there is stacking evidence that says the contrary. He’s stubborn, blindingly so, and refuses to admit he is an unworthy heir. He becomes angry when confronted with it, denying it. In that regard, Mufasa is his major weakness. Because he is everything the king Scar wasn’t, symbolizes what he lacks and is also symbolizes the consequences of the things he has done. To take responsibility for his bad decisions and the things he has done.
He also panics when things aren’t in his favor, not above begging or pleading or trying to talk his way out of it. His composure will be shredded to pieces until he finds a way to shift the situation in his own favor. Otherwise, he’d flee. Because when it is all said and done, Scar will sink as low as he needs to save his own life, even if that means betraying others. He’s afraid of death, of pain. He’s a major coward. And a selfish one at that.
He also is relatively quickly angered.
abilities:
Other than being more cunning, manipulative and intelligent than the average person, Scar’s your regular neighborhood lion without any of those crazy superpowers or the like. However, he is in the possession of retractable claws and fangs, and despite the fact that he tends to advertise himself as ‘weak’, he is perfectly capable of lashing out with them if necessary. He can also run faster and leap higher than humans do (he certainly didn’t have any trouble with jumping in ‘Be Prepared’, despite his *cough* “bad back”), but for lion standards, it probably won’t be anything too awesome as he’s a physically weak specimen nonetheless.
Lions also tend to have better sight, smell and hearing than humans do, so I suppose this deserves a mention as well.
any plans for your character here?
None in particular. BUT, he’ll likely be a bit thrown off the hook in a setting like this. He’s from a regular savannah, no fairy-tale stuff there (as far as he knows dead people don’t show up in the clouds, at least). More importantly, he has never seen any humans before, which will make things all the more weird for him. I think he’ll need to get used to things first.

sample journal entry:
[A male lion is seen circling around the device, having no idea what it is or what it is doing. The lion’s most distinguishable feature is the scar over his left eye.]
Hmm? What is this? My, this strange land is certainly full of surprises, is it not? How delightful...
[He continues to circle the device for a moment before giving it a nudge with his paw. The camera moves for a moment before landing still in another position. Not finding the device to be very responsive as of now, Scar directs his attention to someone that may be in the immediate area.]
Would anyone be so kind to tell me where I am? And what are these...strange, hairless monkey-creatures of sorts that I keep seeing around here?
third-person sample:
Oh, goody, he had a nephew. He could barely contain his excitement over the ‘pleasant’ news, and he’d almost be leaping of joy. Almost, if it hadn’t been his bad back. Or, the likelier version: if the cub wouldn’t take over the throne he didn’t even deserve one day, leaving poor old Scar with the scraps. It had always been like this; Mufasa this and Mufasa that, but no one would see Scar for the wonder he truly was. But they would learn, once he would acquire the throne that rightfully belonged to his.
Unfortunately, the brat’s birth had reduced his chances of ever acquiring the throne that he so rightfully deserved to a delightful zero. More decades of not being given any proper respect to look forward to, because this way, he’d never be King.
Just lovely...
He had been first-in-line, and all this was enough to shred anything that may have resembled a good mood to pieces.
He had wondered if his brother had possibly used sarcasm when he invited him to the presentation of the little hairball, but Mufasa had been gifted with brute strength rather than actual braincells. Therefore, the poor fool might have actually expected him to show up. Oh, dear, was the Majesty going to be in for a disappointment. While the other residents of the Pride Lands chose to join the happy ‘festives’ and admire the little hairball, Scar ended up spending his morning in a more efficient and less-crowded way. His absence would likely earn him a visit of his dear brother, however.
Well, he couldn’t be expected to remember everything...
