What They're Teaching the Kids
We live in a town of about ten thousand people in red state Indiana, after fleeing the taxes and politics in Illinois. I have one eighth grade sibling and one who is a sophomore in high school. Mom has been watching their curriculums and complaining about all the blatant indoctrination. You can't even get away from it here. The high schooler is taking advanced English, and this is one of the videos they are showing in her class:
The eight grader brought home a notice talking about how they're doing a unit on a book titled: Global Read Aloud Stamped Racism, Anti-racism and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X Kendi. It's a book that has become required reading nation-wide, and the gist of it is that all the problems in the world are caused by white privilege, capitalism and prejudices against transgender people going all the way back to the slave holder settlers in New England states. Mom called the school and said she didn't want her son reading that crap, so now he sits in the hallway on his phone during the unit. One other kid pretends to have to use the restroom and sits with him. It's no wonder more people want to home school these days.
