So how many people are seeing coverage of the "deferred action" EO that Obama issued regarding illegal immigrants, aka enacting the Dream Act via fiat? Illegals can now start their paperwork to apply for the permits to work "legally" in the USA.
Its already creating a headache here in Arizona as the lines are out the door and down the street as thousands of illegals come out of the woodwork to apply for these two-year deferments. And there is a new political headache for us, too.
Gov. Brewer reiterated that the legal status of these people has not changed and they are still illegally residing in the country and obviously in the state of Arizona. She stated that they will not be able to get Arizona driver's licenses nor will they be eligible for state benefits as existing Arizona law forbids those things to non-legal residents.
So on top of thousands of people milling about the various government offices downtown as they wait in line, we now have protestors camping out in front of the capitol demanding that Brewer violate state law and "give them" drivers' licences and benefits. This is turning out to be a real nightmare, and its only going to get worse. Even lawyers know there isn't anything they can do legally to make Brewer do this, so they're saying Obama will have to come out "and say something." Its amazing how our laws can be dismissed so easily now: all the President needs to do is give a speech and make a declaration and it is done. I know some Monarchists and I wonder if they feel this would be a decent representation of the start of an American monarchy, given that Obama thinks and acts like a king.
I must applaud Barack Obama for being such a sly man in this case. What's he done, by setting the deferment to 2 years, is set the following administration up for abject political failure that will poison the well for decades. In two years when these "permits" expire, the administration in power will have the nearly impossible task of trying to extricate these people from the workforce, resume deportation, and not make it look "cruel" and "heartless." It doesn't matter that Obama didn't change any laws, that he literally kicked the can down the road to land in someone else's lap. Even if Obama got reelected, it'll be his second term and he won't care because he doesn't need to get anyone's approval ever again because he'll retire to live off of the President's benefits and his book sales, etc forever and (hopefully) disappear. Also it will create a nightmare for the employers of these people, as I'm sure there are no clear "rules" for what they need to do when the permits expire: mass layoffs? Will these people become a "protected class" (even more than they already are)?
In one news report, the reporter mentioned that this program is extremely vulnerable to fraud (given the fairly vague qualifications and the fact that applicants can use documents from foreign countries as "proof," this doesn't seem like an unreasonable assertion). The response from the White House? "Why would these people lie?" Why wouldn't they? They have everything to gain from it, and they've been lying for most of their lives (since this is for "children" of illegals who were were brought here at very young ages) so why stop now?
Maybe seeing the long lines of illegals who are now going to be competing with unemployed Americans and legal residents will backfire on Obama. Maybe seeing and hearing about these illegals going from demanding jobs to demanding entitlements as well (entitlements that aren't even solvent for U.S. citizens) will be the final push that will motivate Americans to stop voting for amnesty-shilling Democrats. I certainly hope so.
