How do we define "God?" I agree that it's beyond all human understanding. I agree with "Xeno's Paradox" (the Babylon 5 concept that there's an infinite number of dots between you and "God" - no matter how "advanced" you have become). I like your description of a gemstone with many facets (an infinite number, actually). I feel that any "cultural" conception of deity is too limited to be the whole truth. Religions grow up around a prophet or martyr and their message (which is almost always the same- love each other), but once the priests, politicians and administrators take over, the message and the religion becomes corrupted and used for secular power. That's why I cannot follow any of them.

I think you can create your own rituals and prayers. I think Divinity will still "hear" them. If it has real meaning to you, it will work. They may even work better!

As for no scientific evidence of "psychic" powers, think again. There's quite a bit, from JB Rhine's studies in the 1930's on up to Lynn McTaggart's The Intention Experiment (http://theintentionexperiment.com/). If you do a little online research, I believe you'll find a bunch of studies to assuage your "scientific side." (I have the same side, it's good because we all need a reality check once in a while!)
