I won in poker last night - the curse is over!
I'm not sure if I could have played any better than I did last night, to be honest. I took out three people (even if taking out Ray was a value call that I just happened go get lucky on when the flop came down), which may be my best number in terms of eliminations. I raised really well (for once) and was pretty much confident throughout.
Usually when I play, I start out well and fade when there's three or four guys left. Something in me just forces me to clam up, play too tight, and end up playing crappy hands. It's probably because the blinds go up so fast that I'm still thinking that 100 chips to play is a lot when, in reality, it's not. Anyway, it happened last night, but I was able to work my way out of it. I honestly didn't think I'd be able to.
I had Sweet Lou heads-up once again - we once had an epic heads-up battle that went for so long that Schiff was forced to take out photo albums to keep the other Studs entertained. This one didn't last too long, though. I hate playing heads-up because it's just harder to fold hands because you're always a blind. I started out crappy for the first two hands, then turned it up a bit.
The last hand was a beauty. I don't remember what Lou had; I had Q-3 of spades. He raised 500 out of the gate; I called. Two spades came out on the flop, so I raised 1000. He called. River brought another spade - I had hit my flush. I checked (hahaha) to Lou, who went all-in. Got 'im! When I called immediately after and showed my flush, I was declared the winner.
I love poker - for now.
