Now you've done it...

OK my team wallowed in mediocrity for a while and then, while in the midst of a run at first place in the AFC East, lost to Marino and the Dolphins on the Fake Spike play. That sparked a run in which the Jets went 3-33, fueled mainly by the Rich Kotite era. They got Parcells and almost made the playoffs in 1997, except RB Leon Johnson threw an interception on a HB option. The next year, they made it to the AFC title game only to lose after leading going into the second half.

In the first game of 1999, QB Testaverde, coming off a Pro Bowl year, tore his Achilles in Week 1. Season over. In 2000, the Jets had the Monday Night Miracle, but crapped out afterward. They went 10-6 in '01 but lost to the Raiders, then won the AFC East in '02 just to lose to the Raiders again. Chad gets hurt in training camp in '03; season over. In '04, they start out fast just to fade down the stretch, get in because the other teams in the conference faded out as well, beat San Diego in a rollercoaster ride and then blew the game against Pittsburgh.

I won't even go into all of the little things that make the Jets the Jets. Paul Hackett's uber-conservative play calling. Receivers that run 9-yard routes on 3rd and 10. The perpetual lack of quality secondary. Herman Edwards' clock management (despite having a special "clock management coach" to help him). Running plays on 2nd and 14. The misuse of Lamont Jordan despite the fact that he's clearly ready for a much bigger role in the offense. The complete lack of use of the tight end, which should be a West Coast offense staple. I seriously could go on forever.

Maybe Seattle's had as many bad moments as the Jets have, but I don't think any team has more of an up-and-down string of luck than the Jets. And the worst thing is that the string of luck never leads to the Super Bowl. Just like you, I'm stuck with this team. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
