The Face of Proposition 8 from Theremina on VimeoI was on my way home from the Lakeshore district when I encountered this group of supporters of Prop 8. After turning my vidphone on, I was screamed at, physically intimidated and eventually attacked by one of the more aggressive sign-wavers ( Read more... )

The screaming alone really curdled my blood.

absolutely horrifying. they're acting like animals, screaming and hooting like they're sloppy drunks at a party, and so angry! they're no different than the hatemongers 40 years ago sitting outside of public schools harassing young black kids who just want to go to school - it's just less socially and legally acceptable to put your hands on people. if it wasn't, there's obviously no doubt that's just what they'd do.

and I want to beat the living hell out of that woman for touching you. that's why I'm not a good protester, ha!

Heh. Even if I'd wanted to beat that lady up, I doubt I'd have succeded! (And had I tried, or even yelled anything back at her, I'm pretty sure there would have been more than one attacker.)

You know, I think a bit of the rage has gone out of me. Not sure why, but when this went down, I was mostly just shocked and overwhelmingly sad.

Angry mobs are the scariest force in the world. And this election season is really bringing out the ugly in our neighbors. It terrifies me too.

I try to stay heartened by the thought that what we're seeing is the desperate death throes of an attitude that's on its way out, which is why they're so furious: because the world is changing around them, mostly for the better.

Exactly. Let's hope it keeps getting better and kinder and less, well, hate-spitting batshit crazypants. :)

Wow... I'm shaking my head in disbelief. I'm so sorry that happened to you. These people are animals... it sounds like their screaming bloody murder! Ingnorance like that shouldn't be able to BREED, let alone protest!
I really give you credit for staying calm during a situaution like that. I don't know if I could have. I can't belive how immature they are for adults. And that she grabbed your property out of your hands like that!!
Were you by yourself when this went down?

Thank you. Yes, I was alone, which in retrospect, was a pretty sketchy idea. I'm really grateful to the woman who stepped in. She definitely saved me from further harm.

Woman, hats off to you for getting your hands dirty. I'm so, so sorry you were attacked by this senseless herd. I, like the others here, am infuriated and can't watch the video any more [3 times, so far]. Gah. Let this be a lesson to anyone who says all of California is liberal. [hugs]

Dirty indeed. I took a long hot shower the minute I got home to wash the hate off.

*hugs*
