Public Service Announcement: Don't be an e-dickhead
On occasions I get curious to see who's linking to the various odd images I've collected and stored on my web server over the years. I parse my web logs to see what's going where and who my main referrers are. I get a real e-rush at being linked to. It pumps up my e-ego. (In case you're interested, THIS is my #1 linked to file. It's strange, because I've only ever posted the link once in a message a couple years ago.)
Strange indeed it was to find that my heaviest image traffic was for a single childcare-based web forum. They were using, interestingly enough, the emoticons and images set aside for a chidfree forum I used to frequent. I'm sure they felt giddy at the prospect of costing me money for bandwidth, but unfortunately for them I pay a flat fee every month unless I pass an absurd amount of traffic that I've never come even close to. Maybe I should start hosting porn with my extra bandwidth. Anyway...
When I send you an email asking you to stop using images on my web server in your heavily trafficked home childcare forum it would be appreciated if you would stop. When you mock my request and tell me to "get fucked" because I'm a "child hating fagot" I get a tad miffed.
And when I get miffed, people DIE!
and by "die" I mean "have their request re-written by the web server such that instead of an animated Beavis icon they get a 400x600 image of a post-autopsy infant."
14 minutes in we're at 894 hits and counting. Oh baby.
