Absolutely fantastic <3 You've done a great job sketching a childhoood in and giving an outline of the rise of our well-loved manipulator, and with fun ideas too. I loved the part in the store with the cute clothes :) I loved the bits about his name, and the irony of his parent's wishes for him. And I'm glad you included Shizuo and Shinra, though it was nice also that they didn't seem to be the focus of Izaya's life or anything (since they're not, but a lot of fics make it seem like Shizuo is or something). I adored your attention to detail and the process of explaining Izaya's thought processes, and his picking of his darling coat. Lolz <3

Thank you so much, this was very fun to write, so I'm glad you enjoyed it too! It started out as the origin story of Izaya's jacket, but somewhere in the process, it became the origin story of Izaya (and possibly the longest thing I've written).

Izaya isn't my favourite character because he is really manipulative and seems to be out to ruin the lives of many characters. However, he certainly is very interesting to write about.

Haha, it started out with the jacket? XD I'm glad someone chose to write about that particularly amusing trait of Izaya's. <3

And yeah, I... don't actually like Izaya, for all the reasons you state, but he's fascinating, and so I think he might be my favorite in terms of whom I get most excited about watching. Kida would be my favorite liked character though ^_^

Holy--this really makes up Izaya's background, alright. :D I rarely see these kind of fanfics, and to see one at such a beautiful new calibre of writing makes it even better.

I especially loved the part on him lying to everyone online, and the part where he gains all the attention of the girls in his school and many guys (in terms of looking up to him). Damn, this really shows the dangerous edge that Izaya has.

Thanks a lot! Wow, I'm blushing! How flattering! :)

I'm glad his predatory nature came across. Izaya doesn't have an origin story as comprehensive as Shizuo's episode of the anime, so I wanted to try and figure out a plausible way for Izaya to become Izaya.

This is another lovely fic you've written! I didn't have the faintest idea about Izaya's name, so this was enlightening haha. I love the fact that he's always pretended to be a girl online, and the way you portray him developing into the person he becomes is simply stunning. The mixing of canon in this was great too, it makes the reader feel closer to the story, and the fic more believable. The voice recorder in his jacket? arghh, so cool and just so right. Lovely work with this - and I do have to commend you for including Shizuo without any Shizaya, and instead just their normal, really destructive relationship.

Though I've seen this style of writing quite a number of times from you already, scene/time flitting to the next and the one thereafter, and in third person. Hope you consider trying a new, refreshing style in any upcoming fics (: But this is still incredibly awesome to me, I adore your writing.

One of my sources for the meaning of Izaya's name was Anni-fiesta's livejournal, but there are some spoilers for the later parts of the light novel in other entries, so be careful.

I tried to avoid Shizaya in this one because that would kind of shift the focus of the fic away from Izaya in all his evil glory. And - darn, I'm getting predictable! Thanks for letting me know, I'll try to switch it up in the next ones. I'm glad you still liked it though! I like your writing too. :)

I figured it was too short to be a gakuran, since it ended near his midtorso when he was first introduced, and when he raised his arm to cut Shizuo, it would probably show his midriff if he wasn't wearing something underneath. (Not that people would mind, of course.)

But it does look like a cropped gakuran when I just compared it to Dotachin's outfit...so now I'm not really sure about my initial assumption. ;___; Thank you for telling me, though!

Also, thank you for the nice comment! I'm glad you liked it and found it in-character! :)

Okay, this gakuran issue was bugging me so much (Schrödinger's Gakuran?) that I ended up editing the fic to cover that. Again, many thanks for highlighting this issue.

Ah, Izaya, such an irritating nonconformist!

I would just like to say...you're my hero. Or heroine. Or whatever. Basically, you're awesome. 8D

I really love to read well-written stories about Izaya, and believable fics about his childhood, growing up, etc, are hard to come by. This rocks my freaking walls, man. It shows where my favorite psycho comes from.

Thanks for writing it! ;)

Oh, you're welcome! I'm really glad you found it believable! I've written another one about Izaya herebut it isn't really about his childhood.

Anyway, thank you for the compliments, it was a fun fic to write. :)

I did indeed find this believable! :3 [Also, I'm kind of ridiculously in love with him obsessed with Izaya, and your writing style's worth a high five, so I'm gonna click the crap out of that link.]

You're welcome, and any time. Glad you enjoyed writing it! 8D
