This afternoon I have to go to a business update meeting for half the company, followed by a dinner and xmas party. So what did I do this morning? Drop my toothbrush on myself, leaving white stains all down my jacket and trousers (which I didn't notice til I got to work, of course). Ha.
The gig on Tuesday went well - I was sooo happy to be back onstage with the band. It was our first gig in three months, since I'd hurt my ear. I felt so enthusiastic, and it was probably the most animated and smiley I've ever been. However, I still got a lecture at the end from a random man in the audience for not moving around enough and 'looking like a zombie'. I get really tired of hearing stuff like that after every single gig - 'you look miserable', 'you don't move around enough', blah blah. I can't help my natural miserable expression - it's caused by intense concentration. And as for jumping around, I just don't have the coordination! I wish they would all shut up, bugger off and leave me alone.
Our gig was supporting a band called Mumrah. These guys are absolutely awesome, blending ska punk, funk, jazz and comedy. Sounds dodgy, I know, but they're amazing - one of the most entertaining and talented bunch of musicians I've ever seen in my life.
http://www.myspace.com/mumrah"Have you ever been beaten round the face by a choirboy? Or felt up by a clown? Have you ever had your feet tickled by Satan? No? Can you imagine what it might SOUND LIKE? No need! Heres Mumrah, Londons premier exponents of music that does all of the above and a bunch of stuff youd never have thought of. Formed in 2000, this six-piece has taken the best bits of Madness, Mad Caddies, Frank Zappa and The Beach Boys and done unspeakable things with them. The result is a heavy, yet gloriously melodic, upbeat yet extremely pessimistic punch in the brain. To borrow a term once used to describe underground heroes Cardiacs, Mumrah play what could be loosely-called pronk: progressive punk."
