Last night in the early hours of the morning I awoke to flashes of light and very loud bangs. When I looked out of the window I discovered the the light was emanating from two police cars blocking the road...there was a car on fire right in the layby right near our house and the bangs were parts of the car exploding. I went to the upstairs living room and watched incredulously with my housemates as a fireman arrived and slowly put the fire out. It was a bit scary, even more so for my housemate whose car was parked right next to it.
Two nights before, my housemate was awoken by some drunken idiot in the street bellowing into his mobile phone. Said drunken idiot then proceeded to throw a brick through both the driver and passenger window of a car parked in the same layby. My housemate called the police as the guy sauntered off down the road, but they didn't arrive in time and he escaped.
It's horrible, because parking is scarce in the road where we live and we all regularly leave our cars in this layby overnight...now we're all worried that we'll awake to find our cars burnt out or smashed up.
The area seems to have really gone downhill since a new kebab house opened up right opposite our house. We now have drunken idiots shouting around in front of the house at ungodly hours, and people revving kevved-up cars next to the house for hours, keeping us awake. There's what looks rather like drug deals taking place, and now this recent vandalism. It's really depressing, and I can only hope that it stops soon - I don't know what will happen otherwise. I really like living here.
In other news, my stupid agency and my new employers continue to aggravate me with conflicting information about my start date. It's already been pushed back four days at the last minute. It's so stressful and frustrating. My new company's HR department keep losing documents and making me resend them. It's a total fiasco.
On a more pleasant note, I helped Stu write a new song for the band yesterday. We haven't done any writing together for ages, and I'm really happy that we've started again.
I've got my work leaving do tomorrow night - even though I'm not leaving until next week now. I don't really feel like I've been there long enough to justify having a leaving do, and wasn't going to have one, but I guess everyone is jumping at the opportunity for a piss-up.
