I haven't done a proper update in a while.

Tuesday 9th - my birthday. Spent the day wandering around London, strolling around a few shops and visiting a few tattoo parlours to find a new tattooist. Had tea and presents at my mum and dad's in the evening. I got money towards my Download festival ticket, a sleeping bag, and a tent from my brother.

Friday 12th - saw the Dresden Dolls at the Astoria. We missed the start as they went onstage just after half 8, which was unexpectedly early. They were awesome, as usual - so passionate. It's nice to listen to music without a load of distorted guitars in it sometimes. I became quite irritated towards the end of the gig by the number of people conducting conversations really loudly during quiet songs and texting on their mobile phones with their backs to the stage. I don't know why some people bother going to gigs when they don't even pay attention to the band and the music.

Saturday - had a birthday meal with 14 friends at Vega in St Albans. I felt so happy being surrounded by people I really liked and cared about, watching everyone getting on and having a laugh together (quite a few of them hadn't met before). We then went on to Water End Barn for a few drinks, and then to Batchwood because we wanted to dance. Batchwood's "Disco" room can usually be relied upon for a good dose of cheesy 80s and 90s...however, this time the music was devoid of those tacky classics I know and love. My housemate managed to persuade the DJ to play the Ghostbusters theme tune for me near the start, but it went downhill after that. The DJ refused to play any Michael Jackson - I was most unimpressed.

Monday - I had a job interview. When I got back home I realised that I'd spent the whole interview, the tour round the office and the meeting with the managing director with my flies gaping open (I'd changed into my suit in the car in a mad rush). Don't know if it counted in my favour or not - I guess it depends if they want someone who's calm and collected with good attention to detail, or someone they can laugh at.
Had a gig in the evening at the Horn - I was somewhat ropey because we've been playing less regularly than usual. I think I need to acquaint myself with that little ole thing they call 'practising'.

Following an accident involving me, my keyboard and a large glass of liquid, I treated myself last night to a wireless desktop kit. My old keyboard was third hand and pilfered from someone's workplace, plus some of the essential keys didn't work, so the spillage gave me a much-needed excuse to bin it. I've put my computer on a super-mega-spazz-size resolution and I've been squinting at it from my bed. Using the pillow as a surface for the mouse is providing me with endless wonder and amusement. I'm easily pleased...sometimes.
