BACKGROUND:
Chris D’Amico was born in New York City to wealthy Mafia boss Frank D’Amico and his wife, Angie D’Amico. From a young age Chris had always wanted to be a part of his father’s business and expected that he would eventually be taking over, but that never happened. He was loved and cared for, but Frank never let him be a part of anything and didn’t show any signs that he was going to start training Chris to be in the business. When Chris tried to get involved, he was scolded and told to leave. Instead, Chris spent most of his time absorbed in comic books.
When he was about 14, he discovered that he had the ability to manipulate electronic equipment without actually touching it, and understand how to work it much faster than normal. Despite this development, he was not regarded as having much more potential than he did before. His powers were mostly viewed as a novelty, and not something that would be of much use. As such, he never learned how to use his powers to do anything particularly useful, and didn’t even really try, preferring to study martial arts and other skills his father found valuable (though he wasn’t very good at them).
His first opportunity to be involved in the business came when a young superhero named Kick-Ass showed up and became a popular internet sensation who took online requests from people in need of help. Some of his father’s men were taken down by someone described as looking like a superhero, and Frank thought it might be Kick-Ass. Chris, who was knowledgeable about superheroes due to his constant comic reading, devised a plan to lure and capture Kick-Ass.
He invented his own superhero identity, Red Mist, and got his dad to sell out one of his own men and make it look like it was Red Mist who caught him. Catching a notorious gangster on the Most Wanted list gained him quick popularity, and Kick-Ass agreed to meet up with him. He intended to lure Kick-Ass into his father’s lumber warehouse (which he used as a cover for his criminal operations) and unmask him there, but when they arrived he found the warehouse on fire. In a panic he rushed in, finding all of the men that had been waiting for him murdered. He took a secret camera he had placed inside the warehouse, and upon seeing the footage he realized that it wasn’t Kick-Ass who was killing his dad’s men, but two other superheroes: Hit Girl and Big Daddy.
He used Kick-Ass one more time in order to find the whereabouts of Big Daddy and Hit Girl, and upon entering he immediately shot Hit Girl out a window and had Big Daddy captured by some thugs who followed him there. The thugs took Kick-Ass as well, which he was very upset about as Kick-Ass hadn’t done anything wrong and he felt that they were getting to be friends. But his dad told him that it had to be done, so he backed off and allowed Kick-Ass to be tortured.
Hit Girl survived the shots due to the Kevlar she was wearing, and was able to rescue Kick-Ass. They proceeded to rampage through the hotel Frank was using as living quarters, killing every single one of his men on the way. Chris, wanting to make his dad proud, went off to fight Kick-Ass but they were both knocked out in the fight. Kick-Ass woke up first and killed Frank with a bazooka. Chris grabbed one of his dad’s katanas and intended to use it to kill Kick-Ass and Hit Girl, but they had already gotten away.
Angered and miserable over the death of his father, Chris became determined to train both his mutant powers and physical combat skills in order to avenge Frank and kill Kick-Ass and Hit Girl. Feeling that his ambitions wouldn’t be welcomed at the Institute, he sought out the Brotherhood instead.
PERSONALITY:
Chris is a bad guy, but he’s not entirely bad. He can be nice to other people and is capable of sustaining positive relationships, provided they continue to be nice to him as well. He’s shy and a little awkward, and quite lonely due to the fact that his dad won’t really let him have any friends. Thus, he tends to get overly attached to the few people he does have in his life and can be clingy. He is constantly seeking the approval of his father, and will do some pretty terrible things if he thinks it’ll make dad proud of him. Because his father is constantly disappointed in him and refuses to let him have any real stake in the family ‘business’, he is insecure and can go overboard in trying to prove himself worthy.
His wealthy upbringing has caused him to be somewhat of a spoiled brat. He’s used to being able to get whatever he wants, when he wants it, and he throws tantrums when he doesn’t get his own way. But, with the world he’s been brought up in he’s been taught that if someone pisses you off enough it’s okay to hurt or even kill that person. Thus, while other spoiled kids might throw tantrums by stomping around and raising their voices, his tantrums involve guns and fighting. Unless he’s mad at his parents, then he just mopes. Anyone else is free game, and he holds one hell of a grudge so don’t expect him to forgive and forget any time soon.
He has no problem lying and using other people to achieve his own means, and is still a bit naïve about the consequences of his actions. He was genuinely upset that Kick-Ass didn’t want to continue being his friend after what he did got Kick-Ass brutally tortured and almost killed. Likewise, he has a naïve optimism that things will continue to work out, that he’ll be able to win a fight despite having next to no training, and that he can take on his first mission for the mob all by himself. Even though he gets beaten pretty badly and witnesses the fall of his dad’s business, he doesn’t seem to have learned his lesson and is still determined to take Kick-Ass and Hit Girl down.
APPEARANCE:
Chris is a relatively average looking teen boy, though he is rather scrawny and small. He has short, dark brown hair and brown eyes. As Red Mist, he has a black and red leather uniform with a cape and chrome plating on his gloves and boots, as well as a mask covering the upper part of his face and a red and black wig.
POWERS:
Technopathy, he can learn how a machine works very quickly and operate it just by being at a close enough proximity to it. As well, he can use his own physical energy as a substitute for fuel/batteries/electricity/etc. when those energy sources aren’t available, but doing so takes a lot out of him and he can become unconscious for a period of time if he uses this ability for too long. He has never had any training on how to use his powers, so he isn’t very good with them yet. The one thing he has managed to get quite good at using his powers is customizing and driving his car, the Mistmobile.
