Chapter 13

It turned out that they didn’t have much chance to talk in that last few months when Ohno was still at home. Nino was seriously busy with his final exams and Ohno was also busy with his entrance exam into University, so all they could communicate with each other was a simple pat on the shoulder, a quick smile and then they had to hurrily come back to their own work. This was getting annoying again for Nino, when he just found himself in simple reality that he had no more time with Ohno. That day was coming really close, just one more week. Ohno was going to leave soon.

That night, Nino, exhausted and frustrated with the final exam, laid on his bed and wondered if he could go to Ohno’s room tonight. It was risky because he was still hearing murmur from their parents’ room, and if they were caught... he didn’t know what to do with it. But he wanted that talk, Ohno had promised, and he wanted to know if Ohno had any plan that could make their situation any better. He rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling. He had to meet Ohno tonight, he decided. And also, he had to wait until their parents were asleep.

About another half an hour later, he could feel the silence inside the house. No more voice, no more movements. So he was sure their parents had already gone to sleep. To make sure, he still laid on his bed for another fifteen minutes then he got up to his feet and noiselessly stepped down the staircase.

The light was down. The room was illuminated by the street light through the window, and Nino could make out the blur shape of the furnitures. Suddenly he caught a silhouette sitting at the kitchen table and his heart nearly jumped out of his chest with fear. However, he realized right then that was Ohno sitting alone in the kitchen, his eyes were looking far away outside the window. Why he didn’t turn the light on, Nino wondered. But then, without losing any time, he moved to behind the boy and wrapped his arms around the other boy and hugged him tightly.

Ohno was caught off guard and he got startled, but then when he realized who it was, he relaxed immediately inside Nino’s arms.

“Why are you sitting here?” Nino said soundlessly into Ohno’s ear. “It’s dark.”
“I've been thinking...” Ohno smiled and then he shook his head. “We should go to bed, Kazu.”
“No,” Nino said stubbornly. Ohno turned around to look at Nino in the eyes. “We need to talk.”
Ohno kept quiet for a second before he stood up and pulled Nino’s hand.
“Okay, but we should go to my room.”
Nino nodded and smiled. Finally, he could hear Ohno’s reason.

Ohno didn’t turn the light on in his room. He didn’t want to attract suspicions. So he just pulled Nino into his room and locked the door behind them, and before Nino could register what was happening, Ohno had pulled him close and kissed him like there was no tomorrow.
“Satoshi,” Nino breathed between the kisses “Wait...”
But Ohno didn’t let Nino finish. He kept kissing Nino, his arms wounded around Nino desperately, pulled their bodies close until it became suffocating. But Nino wasn’t going to complain, because Ohno’s warmth was welcoming around his body, and the pressure of Ohno’s body on his was unexpectedly comfortable. He let himself sink into Ohno's kiss and momentarily forgot whatever he was going to say.

Minutes later, when they were both out of breath, Ohno stopped and put tiny kisses all over Nino’s face. Nino closed his eyes and sighed in content. He almost forgot why he was here for, just let himself enjoy the happiness Ohno brought to his heart. He leaned to the older guy and put his head on Ohno’s shoulder, felt all secure and protected.

“Promise me...” Ohno whispered in his ears. Nino was surprised to hear how Ohno’s voice was wavering, as if Ohno was scared. And as if Ohno was hurt. “Kazu, can you promise me about something?”
“What is it?” Nino hugged Ohno tightly and rubbed his back coaxingly. Somehow, he felt like Ohno was going to say something very important, that would make a great change in his life. “Tell me, Satoshi..”
“Promise me that you won’t forget me.” Ohno’s voice broke a little, his face was buried into Nino’s shoulder. Nino could feel a hot patch through his shirt, and it scared him at how Ohno sounded like he was going to leave Nino forever.
“Wait...” Nino shook his head “You are going to come back, right? You are not leaving me... forever, right?”
“I will come back.” Ohno said firmly. His arms around Nino tightened. “Just, please, Kazu...”
“I won’t forget you, of course I won’t!!” Nino hurriedly said. How on Earth that Ohno thought Nino would forget him? How could it be possible? “Satoshi, are you alright?” Nino found something like fear slowly evading his mind, and he had to squeeze his arms around Ohno's solid body to calm himself down.
“I am.” Ohno said quietly, but he didn’t sound like that at all. They kept hugging, Nino had thousands of questions in his mind but he didn’t dare to ask. Why did Ohno look so unhappy? If he was so unhappy with this, why did he have to go? Why didn’t he just stay here with Nino instead?

Ohno didn’t say anything further. His tear had stopped, and he took back his calm self. When he released Nino, Nino still saw the sadness inside those eyes clearly. And that made Nino’s heart tightened.
“What happened, Satoshi?” Nino asked, he desperately wanted to know. What did Ohno have in his mind? What was he planning?
“I will really miss you.” Ohno said, and it wasn’t like the answer Nino was waiting for, but still it brought a shade of red on Nino’s cheeks.
“I’m going to miss you too.” Nino said shyly.
“Gosh, I’m already missing you now,” Ohno sighed. He hugged Nino again and then kissed Nino’s forehead gently. “I really wish I don’t have to do this.”
“Then don’t,” Nino’s reply came out faster than he thought. But Ohno just shook his head.
“I have to,” Ohno finally said. “I just have to.”

And then they hugged again. Nino kissed Ohno’s temple, and they shared some more kisses until he heard a sound from their parents’ room. Nino was urged to go back to his room because if he didn’t, it would be the end for their relationship right now.

After that day, they had no chance to be with each other again, till the day of Ohno’s leaving.

It was a cold day. Winter was coming, and Nino hated the fact that he would have to spend time alone in this house the next few months, until the next time Ohno visited home again. When they bid their farewell, Ohno hugged Nino tightly again. But because their parents were also there, they didn’t do anything more than that. No kisses, no touches. Just a simple hug, and then Ohno was gone.
